The anime goes into filler and cancels at 51. The manga is ongoing and amazing. It's my number 1. So, watch up to around episode 30-ish, and then switch to the manga. It has a huge Tim Burton feel to it. I love it.

People say One Piece is amazing but personally I dislike the story and the art, so I don't watch or read it.
