I have a fresh copy of windows 8 lying around, but never bothered to install it, i have used the the OS before, but never really used it properly or payed attention to the features it offers and whatnot. I have been looking inot it, and it seems like it's been getting a lot of negative reviews, the metro screen, i don't like that, if i wanted a tablet related interface i would've gotten a tablet, so that was stupid of you, microsoft. But honestly the metro screen needs to die.

It's almost the same as windows 7.

Only thing that's different is the start menu.

I don't consider going from Windows 7 to Windows 8 an upgrade.

You can pretty much switch it to being exactly the same as Windows 7.

I wouldn't. It's annoying as hell to me. I can never open start without having to do a bunch of crap.

OK, and free mainstream support for windows 7 will end in 2015, that's exactly why i'm lookin for an upgrade. And i need some convincing arguments, since i'm still not ready to jump to windows 8 due to it's shitty metro screen. i might go linux. but even so, i'm a casual window user, and windows 7 has satisfied me i'd say, well sometimes the exploer.exe stopped responding, but it was alright, i did hear windows 8 fixed that problem.

Stay with window 7. Windows 8 is crap, my brother has a gaming pc with windows 8 and i get lost within seconds. Win7 is more comfortable in my opinion, i will wait until Win9 comes and see how it goes from there. Win7 = amazing, just amazing.

Don't switch to Windows 8, but rather, switch to Windows 8.1. If you have a legit copy of Windows 8, then you can update it to 8.1 for free. The reason why I'm recommending 8.1 to you is because of the fact that it's better (far better, if you compare it to 8).

You can make 8 or 8.1 look like 7 or Vista using third part programs. Also, the amount of RAM & CPU that programs use up in Windows 8.1 is far smaller (miniscule, if compared to 7) than other versions. Not to mention that the starting time of it scales from 15-30 seconds (in my case). But don't upgrade if you have a low end system, though. Because there wouldn't really be much of a difference since you're so limited.

This guide should help you identify 8.1's scale against 7:

IMO Windows 8 is optimized for tablets + touchscreen devices. It works around applications more. You do have the option to work in the desktop version that windows 7 also has, but that's about all I know. I don't run windows, so my advice might be wrong or limited.

This^^

Windows 8 is a big let down for many. It pales in comparison to Windows 7, Vista or XP however the one thing it excels at is Drivers, its compatible with most Drivers and easily installs/makes use of the drivers other os have difficulty installing.

Exactly the answer i was looking for, well detailed, and well done. So windows 8.1 it is, i have a good computer so it shouldn't be a problem. Thank You for you answer.
