Should I read the Dragon Ball or One Piece? Or both?

imo reading DB is a better than watching DB/DBZ ...... the anime team in a effort to extend the episodes would have made the fights longer ....

i mean Freeza would be like this planet will blow up in 5 min
5 episodes later "pist i'll give this planet another min"
5 episodes later planet blows up

but the fight in the mean time will be epic though

so read both DB and OP thats my opinion

If the option is ONLY to read them, then just read One Piece. The manga for Dragon Ball is sub par. There are many pages of just fighting and no dialog what so ever. It's good to read if you want to know what really goes on because the anime extends things and over exaggerates feats like mad. I would watch DB/DBZ and read and/or watch One Piece. Also, is it just Dragon Ball you want to read? The manga just calls DB/DBZ Dragon Ball so it's a bit confusing. Otherwise if you watch it the anime is broken up into 2 different series, kinda like Naruto.

Manga - "Naruto" the whole thing before and after time skip
Anime - "Naruto" [part1] then "Naruto Shippuden" [part 2]

similarly

Manga - DragonBall (DB) for both before and after time skip
Anime - DragonBall [part 1 Goku as a child to teen] then DragonBall Z [part2 married goku till end of series]

DragonBall GT is another extended anime only series that happens after DBZ just to milk more money out of the epic series

Between the two One Piece is easily the superior in my eyes. The action isn't quite as repetitive, the characters are way more developed, the emotions hit a lot harder, etc. One Piece is just an excellent manga in general so no doubt read that.

It's less that DB is bad and more that DB isn't really that great a series in my eyes. For me DB was pretty awesome in part 1, but Z became really repetitive and was almost entirely carried by the action as the plot was too simplistic and the character development sank a lot. In my personal opinion there are Shounens way better than DB, though I suppose if you want to read it then it wouldn't hurt as long as you don't expect too much out of it. For the most part the people who like DB/Z best are the ones who grew up with it because of the nostalgia, anyone else who jumps into it without any history with it probably won't have the same attachment to it.

This. After reading Naruto I doubt you will enjoy DB as much as you would of before. Db was great but a lot of shounen have surpassed. I still like it due to nostalgia but really its no where near as good as OP or Naruto
