Should certain filler count as canon?

I know that canon means it came from the directly from the manga and the anime only expands on it such as action scenes

For example the taijutsu beat down that Madara gave the ninja alliance didn't happen in the manga he just used his fire style to start it off instead of getting pushed by Temari

So I used to always think that if anime expands on something whether its the plot or characters it should count to the overall story such as the Kakashi Anbu arc filler and a few others. I mean it expands our knowledge of characters such as Kakashi Yamato or more details as to events the happened before etc... and so far it doesn't conflict with the series so why can't it count? or even the utakata and the six tails little arc

I understand that those random Naruto fillers where it's either them going to a random village for a mission or messing around in the village these don't contribute to the story at all and some don't fit into the timeline

So what are your thoughts? (Try to not be the person that just says the obvious saying the definition of canon because we all know what it means, but I'm asking is what the anime adds to the series be taken into the consideration of the whole series like if someone ask about Kakashi's backstory do we just say Kakashi Gaiden or do we include the Anbu filler arc?)

If it's not contradictory to the source material and Kishi was involved with the process then sure.

I don't want to have random gas/ghost like people being canon in Naruto. Nor that Yamato know Kakashi from that far long ago, having this hate/love relationship and turning to be best buddies or w/e while this was never stated. All we use to know was that Yamato was looking up to Kakashi, calling him senpei. Now Yamato was fighting ALMOST equal against Kakashi while he was like 5 years younger or something?

Also Kakashi somehow dares to stand up against Orochimaru? While YEARS later he tried to take Orochimaru down and taking his own life with it then shits his pants when he really thinks about it? Just no

Also Oro getting tricked by a snake with a explosive card and gets mortally wounded? Like that Mofo didn't lived through worse cases The 'Kakashi chronicles' arc has been utterly sh*t.

Also as far as i know, canon is whatever the original writer of the manga has written. Don't think its the case with this, but it is the case with the new DBZ movie (Battle of the Gods which now is seemed as cannon as far as i know).

Yea, fillers deepen and expand the characters and the world better than Kishi, currently this chuunin filler arc should've count as canon not just because it's contributed to the canon story but because the plot is very interesting that revolves the Ninja world in regard the conspiracy to the rain village and the revolution of the Sand village plus the Akatsuk and the 7 tails are involved as well, and these genin shinobi are formidable enough to be intimated instead of some random weak fodder.

Same thing with 3tails, 6 tails, chikara and some filler 4th great shinobi war element that some most anticipated fight got skipped in the manga. Alot of side characters got neglected in the manga, thus it would be better if they showcase our favorite Konoha11 instead everything have to centered around Naruto and Sasuke.

However, I wish the whole what's behind Kakashi's mask episode was canon. Beautiful, really should off team 7's teamwork and hanging out as mates.

Filler is never canon. Otherwise it wouldn't be called filler.

Some of them (like Shino vs Torune) were confirmed canon by the databook. Plus some filler elements are incorporated in the manga sometimes. It's kind of confusing sometimes though.

You do realize that "canon" is a term mostly used by fans and authors usually care less?

Filler or not, far as it is anime then its non canon. However the last movie is canon since it fits directly into the timeline and have been confirmed so by kishi

Yea I think if it adds to or elaborates on canon then it is canon, regardless of whether it's in the manga or not. I'm saying this because both Utakata and Raiga appeared on 'filler' long before they did in the manga, which proves that some filler eps are considered canon.

The definition of canon is something that was formed by a consensus of readers.
It is not something that was started or even noticed by authors. Until they realized that "canonizing" something generates buzz, which in turn, generates money.

The medium and authorship have been the traditional requirements for "canon" status.
IMO the author saying something is connected to canon when it doesn't fit the fans' definition of it is BS.

It proves the author and publisher think the fans are idiots.

I guess it depends on the context. Like, in a debate, using things from filler is typically frowned upon or outright not allowed because it isn't canon information. That doesn't mean, outside of a debate, you can't consider it canon or think of it as a meaningful addition to the Narutoverse. Technically, though, in a more formal setting, none of the filler is canon... and even then, some people insist on claiming things that aren't filler are, like The Last, which Kishimoto confirmed as canon.

Like many said, it needs to feet the Timeline to be Canon.

Example: Raiga Kurosuki and the Boltsowrd (Kiba) - he was an originally anime exclusive character, but Kishimoto adapted him in the Manga too, which is good. But the thing is his story, the one that was given by the Anime, does not fit the Timeline.

Meaning, if Kishimoto has the slightest notion that the Timeline of Naruto is not that well done, he must give him another story. . . IF he likes to connect the character in some upcoming events.
