Shoujo anime is pretty nasty to me.

Most of them involve a dominant male and an overly submissive female, it just pisses me off.
Anyways, only Shoujo anime I've watched is Eden of The East, which is actually a good anime.
I'm currently watching 07-Ghost which is pretty shitty and it's also a shoujo, only this one isn't with a submissive female and dominant male.
It's got an extremely yaoi feel to it.

Shoujo is just not my cup of tea.

Yeah, Ouran's a shoujo anime. Series in this genre normally have a lot of emotions going around, which is why they're directed mostly towards girls. There's a handful of good ones I've seen, but it's not a genre I actively seek out.

Eh, the films focused more on the heroine, so maybe that's why.

Wait...what? I said shoujo is directed mostly to girls because it focuses more on emotions, not action like shōnen are.

That would be josei, which is for older women. NANA's one of those.

Yes, Ouran is shoujo. There are not many good shoujo anime out there. I recommend Sailor Moon if you're looking to watch something. Lol
