The way they handled this was very poor. The off duty cop should have shot the assailant immediately. If the assailant was a spree killer, which is usually the case, things would have gotten ugly fast.

Basically : The Dad was texting his 3 yr old daughter during the previews in a movie theater and ExCop started arguing with him about it. Then ExCop walks out and walks back in several minutes later. The Dad asks if he had reported him to the Management and they began to argue again , this time throwing pop corn at each other. Afterwards, ExCop pulls a .380 handgun and shoots the Dad in the chest and the wife through the hand as she was attempting to shield her husband (the Dad) from the bullet.

Its very sad . Its very horrible. People are so paranoid and frantic and worried over the littlest things nowadays , but people are always like that somewhere. God why? Why, God? This really sucks . All over texting and an unnecessary quarrel were lives ruined forever and one life lost.

This is very sad, but I doubt a three year old knows how to text.

if it was a kid with a toy gun it could have also ended ugly fast, but in the opposite way.

and how the hell did they let him bring a gun into the theatre? do they have no restrictions at all on what people can bring? can i bring nerve toxins into a movie theatre and not be even questioned? citizens shouldn't be allowed to walk around with guns, especially not in those kind of places. it could at best have ended in a fist fight if they had restrictions on weapons of murder.

If it was a kid, if...

But it wasn't

There are concealed carry laws that allow for people to carry guns for self defense. That's why I advocate having armed security present in every theater.

i would be very afraid to go to a theatre if i knew people could enter with guns whenever they want. stuff like that guy and the father could happen every time, how do i know i won't accidently piss off someone with a gun? and i don't trust guards to protect me fast enough, even if he did realise the danger in time there is no guarantee he will be able to shoot the guy before the guy shot someone else. i would feel much safer if i knew that no one had a gun and at most the guy could punch me. guns are just to quick and volatile to be dealt with before they kill someone.

besides, it was a gun that killed the father if you didn't notice. if the guy didn't have a gun,the father would most likely be alive now and the wife wouldn't have such a serious injury. do you deny that if the assailant wouldn't be allowed to bring a gun this could have ended much better?

A gun didn't kill anyone. An idiot with a gun killed someone.

take the gun from the idiot, suddenly the idiot can't kill anyone. if you let idiots walk around with guns of course they will start shooting people, they are idiots.

You do have a point. But it only works for short tempered people. People that are dead bent on murdering are going to murder regardless if they have a gun or not.

Then they will be stabbing people instead of shooting them.

that's why they also shouldn't allow to enter with sharp objects, like in the airport. scissors or knives or those kind of things should be confuscated until the person leaves the theatre or mall. and i can't think of any other stuff that can kill immediatly and are not already allowed.

at the very least it gives security guards or other people time to react, when the murderer have a gun you have to kinda know beforehand he will shoot someone because it happens so fast and it takes one bullet to kill, it takes longer if you can't use knives or guns.

Ok, but on the streets, muggers will stab others.

A hardcore killer will find a way to get a gun regardless of the law.
