As one of the best medical ninjas Shizune has really good chakra control. Could she break the genjutsu. And also the distance is 30 meters, can Kurenai cast it from that far?

I don't really know; they both have not seen feats much; only databook stats and jounin ranks mostly. But her genjutsu seemed like a good stuff; Itachi said something like "just as expected from Kurenai sensei" for it. But by the given distance Shizune can use poison stuff against her.

She has her poison needles and fog. And she could shoot the poison needles from her mouth, too!
And she was quite fast. At least that's what Kabuto said.

IMO Kurenai.
I just want to add that Kurenai's genjutsu requires a few seconds of prep time, having no intel its obvious that she shouldn't make the first move.
Kurenai has some excellent reflexes >

(this was right after getting off of the genjutsu and note that Itachi is one of the fastest and most proficient in taijutsu character), she would be more than able to defend against Shizune's needles.
At this point she would deduce Shizune is a medical ninja who deals with poison. When Shizune uses the poison mist, she holds her breath and casts her genjutsu.

I just want to add that Kurenai's genjutsu requires a few seconds of prep time, having no intel its obvious that she shouldn't make the first move.

I find it hard to believe when Shizune one shots Kurenai with a poison needle and poison fog IF she can hit.
And Kurenai one shots if she gets Shizune under genjutsu and can actually keep her under it long enough.

Actually no. The best proof that Shizune has excellent chakra control is that she is one of the best medics. I don't see any logic in your post. Since when talking about Shizune it works. Kurenai has good chakra control too but uses it for a different purpose, but great chakra control is a life saver when getting attacked by genjutsu.

I smell you're a Shizune fan... but nevermind >.>
I'll repeat some of my points:
Kurenai's hype and stat automatically put her leagues above Shizune in regards to genjutsu. Tsunade and Sakura have better chakra control than her, does that make them immune before a genjutsu speciallist? No.
Itachi activated his SHARINGAN in order to reverse her genjutsu. IIRC Shizune doesn't have Sharingan.
