Shizuma is blindly hated by fans in my opinion

I always like his character and his sarcastic tone but he turned out to be disappointment toward the end . I believe there is alot more to Shizuma character than meet the eye. Yes he pulled the switch from wanting to restore his family honor for memorial and the blood mist regime to wanting war for fun thus regressing into One Dimensional. However there is still some grain of truth to Shizuma character since Chojuro is still keeping under the wrap. Plus Shizuma pulled interesting tad bit of foreshadowing inferring to the people from within the shadow will rise something that we are not aware of.

We don't know what this might lead into but Shizuma might reoccur into the future story.

You didn't mention bloody mist jutsu. He and Samehada create red mist around him and opponents. Mist will absorb chakra from any open wound opponent have. Its really cool jutsu and way better version of normal hidden mist jutsu.

while its not a bad motivation, he dragged this point thinking he could change Kiri - making characters believe in his ideas. Only for them to realize this was all just a joke to him.

Seems like his character is like this on purpose. He's realistic in reality people see war as fun

His design is really good, but his character is... very terrible.
