In his younger days, Whitebeard had no scars on his chest, donned an open vest, and his trademark mustache was nonexistent. Later in his life, he grew the prominent crescent-shaped mustache, which would spawn his epithet, "Whitebeard". When he was 42, he wore a blue and yellow pirate hat with his jolly roger on it over a black bandana with black and red, both worn over long, blond flowing hair he had back then.
Whitebeard is an abnormally large human, roughly five times the size of a normal human. Unlike other large-sized humans, however, he is well-proportioned. He has a long face, ploughed because of the advanced age with many wrinkles around his eyes, and is very muscular. The muscles on his biceps in particular seemed to grow bigger whenever he battles. He has many scars running along his chest; one, in particular, he got from Roger. Like all of his men, he has his own Jolly Roger tattooed on his back. In the anime, his eye color is seen to be yellow.
He wears a black bandanna around his head and adorns himself with a white captain's coat which hangs loosely from his broad shoulders and bore his Jolly Roger symbol. He is always seen bare-chested, and wears light, loose pants tucked inside his large black boots, and a dark pirate sash around his waist.

Edward Newgate seems to be a cheerful and carefree person during his younger years.
He refuses all advice given to him. However, later revelations showed that he is much more thoughtful than he appears to be.Although from what other people saw of him, he may have seemed to have an overgrown ego, deep down he knows that he is nothing but a single man, and is fully aware of his own mortality. He knows that the youth are the keys to the future, and that their lives are far more important than his own.
He also seems to enjoy talking about the past.Among his philosophies in life was that it is fine when a man decides what to make of his life, as long as he doesn't live to regret it. He had also been shown to be forgiving even after being stabbed in the abdomen by his ally.
A distinguishing feature of Whitebeard's nature was his high moral standards. Whitebeard never forgave the death of a crewmate. His stance, that a man cannot live without some form of moral code.
He has a distinct laughter which is "Gu ra ra ra ra".

Edward Newgate was born on 26 april in the Uchiha clan.26 april was considered a auspicious date in Konoha and as such the seers predicted that he would make his clan and his father proud.He was already being hailed as the next genius of the uchiha clan.Little Edward was happy and content.Little did he know there would be only misfortune and suffering in his life.At the mere age of 8 Edward suddenly showed abnormal growth and increased muscular physique.By the time he was 12 he was head and shoulders above most adults in the village.Children of his own age shunned him and were afraid to play with him.The adults labelled him as a freak.Even his clan members disrespted him and treated him with contempt.Life was miserable for him.The teachers in the academy ridiculed him and encouraged the other children to shun him.He had nowhere to run nor hide.In these dark times he had only one companion a dog named Vanya.She was the only source of his comfort.Edward spoke to her everyday and poured all his frustrations, pain and loneliness.But his misfortune was yet to end.One day he took vanya out for a walk outside Konoha in the forest.Suddenly they were attacked by a pair of wolves.the wolves mauled edward and he was about to die when Vanya came to his rescue.Though she fought valiantly and rescued Edward she got killed in the process.Edward lay flat on the ground grievously injured with no strenght to walk.Sudenly he heard footsteps and two person apperared in his view.They appeared to be arguing with each other.first one said, "He is dying.he has been seriously wounded.We need to take him to the hospital." the other one replied,"Why bother.He is a freak.I say let him day.It wil be a good riddance"."I cannot do this to another human being.I will take him to hospital" said the first one.Edward lost track of the conversation and fainted.He woke up in the hospital.the nurse informed him that he was in he hospital for three days and his injuries have been healed.Edward went back home where his father called him a disgrace to the uchiha clan and called him pathetic for not able to defend against a pack of wolves.From that day everything went downhill for Edward

three years Later..
"Dammit Edward..This is the third time you have failed the genin tests.You are useless.Every single children passed this time except you..whats wrong with you..?"shouted Ichikobo sensei."I am sorry sir.Next time i will definitely pass"replied Edward with a sad face."you say that every time.Now get out of my way."said Ichikobo sensei and stormed off leaving edward in tears.When he informed his father that he failed again for the third time his father exploded and beat him severely.Edward was lonely,he had no friends ,he kept failing..in short his life was miserable.the next day he was reluctant to go to school.But the fear of his dad was enough to convince him to go the academy.Little did he know that his life was about to change.When he reached the classsroom he went and sat alone in the corner ofthe room.After a few minutes Ichikobo sensei came witha new student.The person had jet black hair, impressive physique and an impish grin.Ichikobo sensei introduced him and then the peron said ,"Hello my name is roger..Gol D.Roger..Please to meet you".Ichikobo sensei told him to take a seat.Instead of sitting with the normal students roger went and sat with Edward. Edward and the whole class was schocked.roger gave edward an impish grin and said,"hey..You know my name whats yours..??"Edward stammered and replied ,"Its Its edd-dward"."hey Edward lets can you tell me who are the hottest chicks around here."said roger with an impish grin.an answering smile came on edwards face and he replied,"sure".And that was the beginning of their friendship.Roger and Edward soon became inseparable.They did everything together from doing homework , stealing apples or training together.Edward was happy .He finally got a friend.He became motivated by roger and strived to be better than him.So he trained hard.In a few months he and roger became chuunins easily beating the old scores to create a new record.One day while both of them were fishing edward asked roger the question he was desperate to know," Roger Why did you choose to be my friend..a person who is considered a freak by others.""because I have gone through the same.My parents were rogue shinobi who betrayed their village.I grew up all alone in a ramshackled house with no one to take care of me and i was shunned by the villagers because of my heritage."replied roger biiterly.Edwards eyes went wide when he heard it and he apologized to roger.Roger gave a laugh and said," Its fine.i dont care anyways.We are friends and thats enough for me.."Edward returned home in high spirits only to see that his whole clan:the Uchiha clan has been slaughtered signalling the start of the Third Shinobi World War.His anger ran hot and he decided to actively participate in the war

Third Shinobi World War..
Edward and roger were assigned to collect intel on enemies along with their sensei Achibu.The mission went smoothly but when they were returning back they were ambushed by the enemy.Though the trio fought valiantly there were too many enemies and finally Akibus sensei died.Rogera and Edward continued to figh t and just when they thought that they would win the unthinkable happened.Edward looked horrified as he looked at rogers chest.it was pierced by a hand which was emitting lightning chakra.Chidori!!he immediately recognized it.An assasssins favourite weapon.The hand freed itself from rogers chest and roger fell in a mangled heap.Edward looked at the assassin with hate and anger.The assassin was lithely build.Slender yet powerful.His eyes were cold and emotionless and he had a distinctive black beard .With blood roaring in his ears Edward attacked the asssasin.The assasin looked at him lazily and at the last moment moved with lighneing speed and suddenly Edward was in agony.His shoulder blades had been pierced by another chidori.He fell on the ground and started writhing in agony.the assassin gave a cruel laugh and said..,"You think you could deafeat me boy..me!!..I am blackbeard..World's most infamous assassin.You cant defeat me, not in a thousand years."with this he kicked on edwards face and edward lost consciousness.When Edward woke up he found himself in a medical tent.He immediately sat up and the muscles screamed in protest."roger!..where is Roger!!"asked edward frantically.The medical nin replied with a sad face"we tried everything but we couldnt save him.we are sorry"."no..no..this is wrong.you are lying..he cant die"said Edward to himself denying what happened.His balance wavered and sudden grief overpowered him like a cyclone and he slipped into the realms of insanity.
