Already a prodigious talent since his early childhood, Kakashi rose quicker than anyone in the ninja ranks: graduating on academy at 5 yrs old, becoming a full fledged chunin at 6 yrs old and jonin at something between 10-12 yrs old, then he entered the Anbu, as still a young boy, becoming an Anbu captain younger than all before him. In his years as Anbu he became famous and feared all over the world as "Kakashi of the Sharingan" and after he leaved the Anbu, even after many years, he still holds high status and strong connections in the organisation, with past subordinates like Yamato or Yugao who deeply respect their past captain. Hiruzen trusted Kakashi's skill and strength enough to rely on him for take on the last member of Uchiha clan and the last member of the Uzumaki clan, lost son of the 4th Hokage and the Kyuubi's jinchuriki. At the start of part 1, Kakashi was already famous all over the world for his fame and strength reputation, respected by Zabuza (
It's really important to say that part 1 Kakashi was equally matched with Gai. Part 1 Gai could open at least 5 Gates (if Rock Lee could and Gai teached him) and he still was Kakashi's equal on a general level. Part 1 Kakashi could stomp and blitz Zabuza everytime he got serious or wasn't in a difficult situation like fighting in the Hidden Mist. Part 1 Kakashi was strong enough to react and counter all Itachi's moves (ninjutsu and clone feints) (

Without being an Uchiha, he learned to completely control the Sharingan and to use and then perfect the Mangekyo Sharingan, gaining the moniker of "Sharingan of Kakashi" and being praised multiple times for his skill and complete mastery of the 3T Sharingan and the Mangekyo Sharingan by the strongest Uchiha, even by Madara himself (
While in part 1 Kakashi was already powerful enough that Itachi had to willingly use Mangekyo, hence damaging his eye sight, to defeat him, in Shippuden we saw as Nagato through Pain respected and hyped Kakashi's skill and strength, before the War (
A master of all the ninja arts, ninjutsu, taijutsu and genjutsu, Kakashi's ninjutsu arsenal is clearly one of the best in the series. As a Mangekyo Sharingan wielder, with the Kamui jutsu, one of the most haxxed and powerful jutsu ever seen, that Kakashi perfected up to the best. But now let's focus on the rest. He is renowed as being able to use more than 1000 jutsus (
Kakashi's Sharingan allows him Sharingan/MS precognition to have enhanced reflexes and see chakra, the ability to use Raikiri effectively against high level enemies, Sharingan/MS genjutsu offense and defense, the ability to copy and preempt ninjutsu, taijutsu and genjutsu, the ability to warp himself to teleport from the real world in Kamui dimension and the opposite, the ability to one-shot nearly every enemy he could ever face with Kamui, something that made him actually able to contend with nearly every character in the manga, no matter how strong and powerful. As already said, Kakashi has the feats to being able to fight on equal grounds, if not having the upper hand, with the strongest member of the Uchiha clan, wielding the same power, the Sharingan/Mangekyo Sharingan, but with the big handicap of not being an Uchiha in the first place. And as already said some really strong foes appreciated his dojustu prowess, not to mention that it earned Kakashi's moniker as "Sharingan's Kakashi" and "Copy Ninja" even before that he gained and perfected an incredibly haxxed asset like a Kamui-equipped Mangekyo Sharingan.
With a non perfected Kamui, as he couldn't control the size and the position of the space-time barrier for his own admission, Kakashi could have an Akatsuki like Deidara at his complete mercy, warp giant masses in a couple of instants and then was sure he could have defeated another one like Kakuzu. Some time after, Kakashi was even willing to fight Tobi, believed as the legendary Madara Uchiha, with Kamui. Some mastered Kamui execution feats (as the 4th databook confirms that Kakashi mastered Kamui by the time of the 4th World War; hence he gained even the ability to teleport himself (
- Kakashi can canonically warp a human body part (an head sized object) in the same time Obito needs to make it intangible and of a movement of 5 cm from KCM Naruto rushing to attack Obito (
- Kakashi warps away two Susanoo arrows when both are already at half their way and his Sharingan was still the 3T one (
- Kakashi warps away Minato's Rasengan countered by Juudara really in no time (
- Kakashi warps away a giant arm of the Gedo Mazo while Madara is already summoning it away with instant space-time summoning jutsu (
- Kakashi feints to warp Naruto's Rasengan and then insta-warps away his body before Obito's Kamui propelled stakes could hit him even with a point blank shot (before Kamui shooted stake that was hitting BM Naruto could move for more than a couple of cm), managing to make Obito think that Kakashi missed and he succesfully hit the clone (
- Kakashi with a Kurama chakra supply (that was said to have increased 3x the power of his jutsu) could warp the Hachibi in the Kamui dimension and then re-warp it in the real world, and then finished all the chakra (
So Kakashi can Kamui away human head sized objects in a more or less instant time and even with fast moving objects/people and unpredictable situations. And he can Kamui away human body sized objects in also nearly istant times, and even giant objects. Thanks to the Kurama's chakra supply from Naruto, Kakashi's Kamui was depicted as a dangerous threat for even the Juubi. Just read what is said from databook about Kakashi's Kamui (and that was when it wasn't perfected yet... it was also stated in the 3rd databook that Shippuden Kakashi was still growing in power and has to completely master his Mangekyo Sharingan (
Out of the long range Kamui usage, Kakashi also showed that he can warp off from the Kamui dimension the things that he warps in, shooting them out as Obito does, so he can for example warp away a Bijuu Dama or a Jinton, and then re-warp quickly it and surprise the opponent with his own attack. Kakashi can also warp himself with the ability of teleport anywhere he wants, gaining a really useful ability for surprise attacks and for support purposes; for example, he can go to the other dimension, focus his chakra, and then use a giant-size Kamui with ease. Or simply have rest and then perform surprise attacks on his opponent.
Kakashi's no genjutsu prowess is really high even without the Sharingan. Kabuto's genjutsu, and A rank jutsu, could put to sleep an entire stadium, and when some jonin level ninja breaked it, Kabuto praised it as the Konoha èlites showing their skill (
It's worthy to appreciate also his stamina growth, with the chakra pool slowly becoming not much of a problem. In early part 1, when out of shape, he could use the Sharingan for a few time, like some genjutsu and Suiton ninjutsu or Doton ninjutsu and Raikiri, then when he started to regain his shape he could go up on use 4 Raikiri + Sharingan. At the beginning of Shippuden he could use the Sharingan for an entire night while testing Naruto and Sakura. After that, he used 3 times the Kamui (one against a giant explosion) against Deidara. Then against Kakuzu/Hidan and against Pain he showed an even increased stamina. In the War Arc Kakashi could use 5 Kamui (one of the giant head of the Gedo Mazo) one after another and with perfect prowess, while at the same time he was using the Sharingan and some strong ninjutsu, as Raikiri and Raiden, for hours, before exhausting his reserves. Then, after coming back from the Kamui dimension in chapter 655, he used the Kamui for 7 times with exceptional prowess as well and in fast succession (Kamui teleporting in 655, Kamui on Gedo Mazo in 659, Kamui on Obito in 665, Kamui on Minato's Rasengan in 665, Kamui on Naruto, Sakura and Gaara's sand cloud in 666, Kamui on Obito in 666, Kamui on Madara's Gudodama Onmyoton shield in 669) and also the Sharingan and other jutsu, even jutsu like Raikiri, when he was holding off Zetsu possessed Obito together with Minato.
Portrayed as a speedster since his childhood, even by Minato himself who acknowledged him as such, child Kakashi before Sharingan could go toe on toe with experienced jonin in taijutsu, with two tomoe Sharingan he could blitz and rip them in half with Chidori. Part 1 Kakashi's speed and taijutsu was enough to (without even uncovering the Sharingan) completely outperform Kabuto, who was able to dodge Tsunade's hits and outperform her with ease, and enough to blitz Zabuza multiple times (
Beginning of Shippuden Kakashi can casually outspeed and intercept Naruto in his Kyuubi powered first stages (
Kakashi's physical toughness is such that he tanked like nothing a surprise Domu-enhanced kick from Kakuzu that send him flying for metres away and breaking some giant trees (
Part 1 Kakashi, albeit having a hard time, was reacting and countering Itachi's base jutsu in spite of their speed (

I've tried my best to regroup Kakashi's best feats and the best statements in regard of his general value as a ninja. Hope my work helps people to understand how strong and how skilled he is.
Shippuden Kakashi is hella strong, He can one-shot nearly anyone with his Mangekyo Sharingan prowess, Kamui is just too hax even with "only" the left eye mastery; his base skills are some of the best in the series, he is a great speedster and a master of CQC who can freely wield Raiton and add Sharingan precognition and genjutsu and his top notch tricks and feints, not to mention his unrivalled battle smartness and his general ninjutsu versatilty and skill; his general portrayal is clearly the one of the key-players in the War Arc. Far better than any of the Gokage and any Akatsuki member bar Nagato/Pain, Obito and Itachi, able to defeat Itachi and even Pain with his War Arc feats, able to fight equally against Obito, even outperforming him. War Arc Kakashi with 1 Sharingan/MS is one of the strongest character in the series, no contest, on par if not even better than people like Minato, Tobirama, Nagato and so on, as clearly showed by feats and supported by portrayal.

When Tsunade healed Kakashi from the Tsukuyomi effects, she said "beaten by only two enemies... and I thought you were a genius" hyping him. Even if she knew that he fought against Itachi Uchiha and Kisame Hoshigaki, two S-ranked missing shinobi, not two little shits as "two enemies" (

I simply think that Obito decided to fight Kakashi one on one to settle everything with him; once he saw that he wouldn't have won and that he wouldn't have persuaded him to join his side, he decided to take advantage of what would have been his loss anyway, putting his life completely on the line. I think that War Arc 1MS Kakashi is portrayed as slightly stronger and better than War Arc MS + Rinnegan Obito (not counting the Bijuu to Obito): while Obito has more raw power, Kakashi has more skill and he is the better ninja. And Obito is one of the strongest people in the manga.

Kakashi's Sharingan allows him Sharingan/MS precognition to have enhanced reflexes and see chakra, the ability to use Raikiri effectively against high level enemies, Sharingan/MS genjutsu offense and defense, the ability to copy and preempt ninjutsu, taijutsu and genjutsu, the ability to warp himself to teleport from the real world in Kamui dimension and the opposite, the ability to one-shot nearly every enemy he could ever face with Kamui, something that made him actually able to contend with nearly every character in the manga, no matter how strong and powerful. Far better than any of the Gokage and any Akatsuki member bar Nagato/Pain, Obito and Itachi, able to defeat Itachi and even Pain with his War Arc feats, able to fight equally against Obito, even outperforming him. War Arc Kakashi with 1 Sharingan/MS is one of the strongest character in the series, no contest, on par if not even better than people like Minato, Tobirama, Nagato and so on, as clearly showed by feats and supported by portrayal.
