The strawhat ship is their salvation i mean they first had a lamb and a lion, which is symbolism for jesus.
Their lamb was sacrificed (Viking funeral) and had already died and rose again (water seven it was thrown out into a graveyard but then resurrected by the mayor)
The Lamb of god (merry) saved them when they were with out hope (the end of ennies lobby) and it was succeeded by the lion of judah (thousand sunny)
