Gai fought a Madara who had no Gudo Dama, without Shinju control. If Obito were to fight this Madara, he'd maul him too. JJ Madara>JJ Obito overall, but take away the Gudo Dama, and he can't properly defend against Obito's attacks nor can he injure Obito. So Gai fighting Madara doesn't necessarily make him as strong as full powered Madara or Obito.

In fact, Manga never portrayed anything. Manga portrayed that Gai could only challenge Madara with help, and only fail in the end.

Now when it comes to comparing Gai and Hashirama's stats and strength:

-Durability goes to Hashirama by a landslide due to Mokuton.
-Firepower goes to Hashirama by a landslide due to Shinsuusenju.
-Speed goes to Gai by a landslide since he can keep up with Juubi Jins.

Gai can go above Hashirama because he'd be able to challenge stronger people than Hashirama due to his speed.

Not just speed, strength also even though he will die in the end.

But able to beat up JJ Madara's body alone using his own body strength is a great achivement for him(non rikudou char). Hashi need large Jutsu to challenge JJ Madara(even though never happen in manga).

Thats why I think he was the strongest.

No. Gai only has speed. Speed is the only reason he goes above Hashirama. If we talk about anything else Hashirama easily trumps him. Underlined is extremely flawed thinking that literally makes zero sense. Gai being able to do that with his own body doesn't automatically make him more powerful than anyone who needs Ninjutsu to do so, as that is the point of Ninjutsu in the first place.

Like I said, his speed is what lets him not get fodder stomped by One Eyed Madara and Obito. His speed is the only reason why:

-Hashirama doesn't kill him.
-EMS Madara doesn't kill him.
-Edo Madara doesn't kill him.


That's literally his only saving grace, and even then he probably loses to EMS, Edo and VoTE Madara since he'd need his strongest technique to damage Susanoo, and that might kill Madara, but it definitely kills him as a result. VoTe Madara also has a nuke spam that Gai can't avoid any under circumstances. His only chance of winning in that scenario is if he blitzes. I really can't blame people who put Hashirama over Gai because of that simple fact.

One could look at how he'd perform against, Hashirama, VoTE Madara and One Eyed Madara w/o Gudo Dama and say that he's below the likes of Hashirama because he can't beat VoTE Madara (unless he can blitz and kill before PS comes out), who is on par with him. Another could look at how he performed against JJ Madara and say that he's far above anyone not Rikudo buffed, but then they'd have to realize that Gai was fighting a Jin who had no Gudo Dama besides a single stick, in nothing but close combat. Then if you said "he's still far stronger than people like Edo Madara", you'd have to assess how well Madara w/ PS activated already would do against a JJ Madara who used nothing but:

-1 Gudo Dama stick.
-Physical abilities.

So yeah, the people saying that Gai should be ranked below Hashirama have a point tbh.

Yes, that's what I addressed previously. He's establishing physical strength and speed as the criteria to put Gai above Hashirama.

Right. People need to separate VS match conclusions and actual power, because as we all know, Naruto is too matchup specific to judge like we'd judge fights in DBZ. Momoshiki is the perfect example. He's definitely not equal to peak Naruto and Sasuke together, but was only able to take them on because he had an ability that made their full power nigh useless.

Gai mangling a Juubi Jin with no Gudo Dama is a feat that people on Hashirama's level have the ability to do. Not sure about Madara because of how fast he might or might not be, but BSM Naruto and EMS Sasuke were already tagging Juubito. If we were to swap out Juubito for Madara and take all his Gudo Dama, and then put an Edo Madara already in PS in his place and have him do nothing but what he did against Gai, Juubito would get torn apart.
