History
Shinpachi Nagakure was born near the city-state of Hokaito and Kusagakure, in a small village named Hijima. He was born on August 18 to Mari and the renowned samurai, Hiro Nagakure. He was born during the time of peace between the nations. It had been a bright and sunny day when he was born and his parents could not be any happier. They named him after a great samurai hero Shinpachi Okomura who was known for his excellent swordsmanship but even more so for his generosity and kind spirit.
Growing Up
Being the son of such a renowned samurai, Shin found life to prove quite difficult. Ever since he was a child he was expected to be like his father in every way. He had to get the get high marks in school. His training was intensive and most often his father always disapproved in his development. Any little achievement on Shin's part was easily crushed by his father with cold words such as, "...you could have done better...". As a boy Shin tried so hard to get his father's attention or approval but was always ignored. He tried so hard to become the best excelling in his studies (think of the extent of Gai and Lee's training). His mother would always comfort him and remind him that they both loved him very much. She would always tuck him in every night and tell him that they both are very proud of him and to not strain himself.
Due to his father's occupation, Shin was always surrounded by other samurai with great wisdom. One such took a liking to him and taught Shin the basics of how to handle a sword and that a sword is much more than a weapon, it was a means to defend that which is important. Human life. As time went on Shin decided that he would fight for the greater good and not for any selfish reasons. The wisdom he gained from his mentors he took to heart and vowed to never kill unless it was truly necessary even though he believed there was always another choice.
When Shin became 15, he packed his bags and set out to leave his beloved village. On his way past the town bridge, in the distance, stood his father who seemed like he had been waiting for him. He dropped his bags and approached him.
"Father....."
"I have been waiting for you, Shin Nagakura."
"Eh? Why me?....well that's not important right now. Father...I believe the time has come."
"You do know that I cannot let you simply leave here. It is my duty to stop any deserters. Do you not care about this place? Us?"
Becoming angry, Shin unsheathes his sword and looks at his father with a smirk. This was his day to prove to him he was ready.
"You dare point a sword at me and give me that smirk? I see I have taught you nothing."
"Stop talking old man and show me what you got!"
"I have been waiting for you, Shin Nagakura."
"Eh? Why me?....well that's not important right now. Father...I believe the time has come."
"You do know that I cannot let you simply leave here. It is my duty to stop any deserters. Do you not care about this place? Us?"
Becoming angry, Shin unsheathes his sword and looks at his father with a smirk. This was his day to prove to him he was ready.
"You dare point a sword at me and give me that smirk? I see I have taught you nothing."

Both run towards each other and in the misty morning all that could be seen was the sparks of swords clashing and the sound of steel clashing against each other. However in the end, Shin's years of training proved useless against someone as skilled as his father. When the mist cleared Shin could be seen kneeling and breathing heavily and his father pointing his blade at his throat. With his eyes closed, Shin felt a sense of worthlessness before his father. He was not able to get a scratch on him.
"Hmm.....I will await you back at home. There I will administer your punishment for attempted defection."
As he turned around and started walking away, Shin got up and in a fit of rage rushed towards him with the intent to kill. As his father turned around to meet the coming blade, Shin's mother stepped in between them and took the full force of the cold, hard steel of his son's blade. There was an air of silence as Mari gasped and struggled to speak.
"Please....stop it. Stop fighting.....you are grown...men. I love you both very much......Shin....I don't blame you. Don't hate your father....."
As Shin slowly retrieved the blade from his mother, he was silent, though shocked and saddened. He laid Mari on the ground slowly. She softly brushed his face and her eyes closed. Shin was always taught to hide his feelings so he was unsure of what to feel. But as a tear ran down his eye he knew that this was sadness. He held his dead mother tightly and tears ran down his face. A small breeze passed through, blowing all the sakura flowers where they were. Almost if a sign from his mother that she had left the living completely.
As he got up, his father, also angry, yelled at Shin to leave and never come back. Shin grabbed his bags and walked away then running as if being chased. He traveled day and all night till he came upon a wooded area where in the moonlight he cried like he had never before. He set up camp and went to sleep, not knowing what destiny had in mind for him.
Kusagakure
After travelling for a bit the next morning, Shin arrived at Kusagakure. He had been here before as a kid but never really remembered much about it. He knew not what to do but he knew he wanted one thing. To defeat his father for killing his mother. Although it was Shin's blade that killex her, he believed that it wouldn't have happened if his father would not have had fought him and just let him go. His resolve was strong and there was nothing that could break his.....
A rather fair and robust, young woman passes by...
"Hey you....mind showing me the town and maybe a good time? Wink, wink. (winks)"
Ssslap! The young woman slapped Shin right on the cheek and walked away angrily.

After rubbing his red cheek, Shin keeps walking and eventually enters the Academy building where he meets with a old mentor of his. He is invited to dinner at his house later that evening. Shin explains to him his situation and the man kindly agrees to help him out. He enlists him in the academy for ninja basics.
It was quite entertaining for the children as he was the oldest (15) and really stood out. However much fun they all had, Shin studied hard and within a year graduated the academy. He then, with a strict training regiment from his mentor, was able to successfully enlist in the Chuunin Exams.

He didn't pass it the first time but the following year he passed it. His skills at first were quite...laughable but his teachers said that when it came to the heat of battle, Shin was able to focus quite remarkably with a clear mind. It was not an easy time for Shin because it was embarrassing half the time but he stayed positive and once he became a Chuunin he earned the respect of his mentors and teachers. Because of his progress, his mentor vouched for him to become a Jounin. He believed that he was now a mature man and was very skilled.....his only problem was women. ~o~
Now after two years of hard work, failures and achievements, Shin set out to begin his real training. He was willing to learn from anyone and from anywhere. With help from a friend named Gaara of the Sand, Shin headed out. His trusty Katana by his side and his red cheek from an earlier mishap with a lady.

Kirigakure
Once arriving to the Land of Water by boat, Shin sat down near the bay looking out towards the sea. He looked at his map then looked up to see a nearby mist in the distance. Could this be the famed Village of the Bloody Mist? Would he make it out alive? There was no way to be sure but travel in that direction. He walked towards the eerie forest, took a deep breath, and continued walking with a sense of caution.
As he continued walking the light got darker and darker. The scary sound of animals wailing and howling sent chills down his spine. Once or twice Shin swore he heard the rustling of leaves nearby but it was too dark to see and the mist didn't help at all. Shin began to get real paranoid that at this point he gripped Yoshi (his sword) as if ready to draw. As he kept walking he heard something like several footsteps and BOOOM! Before he knew it he was hanging upside down with his leg tied to a branch. He closed his eyes and again felt so stupid for falling for such a cheap trick.
"(thinking) Dammit....not again......?.....!!"
The footsteps got louder until finally they stopped in front of him. Shin opened his eyes and before him stood what looked like a tall, hooded figure with what looked like a gas mask. The others wore what looked like hunter-nin masks. The dark one spoke....
"You have two options. We kill you now or you swear your life right now to the mist. I would prefer to kill you know and get it over with but honor dictates I ask you. (mutters) Please say kill me."
"Spare me."
"(Disappointed) Fine. But caution. If I find you are a spy I will crush you for the worthless insect that you are. Follow this map and you should be fine. DOn't try anything funny as my best men will follow you in the shadows. Should you choose to disobey my orders they will not hesitate to eradicate you."
"(gulp) Yes sir."
"Spare me."
"(Disappointed) Fine. But caution. If I find you are a spy I will crush you for the worthless insect that you are. Follow this map and you should be fine. The hooded figure disappeared as quickly as he came along with the others that arrived with him. Then without notice...THUMP!! Shin fell to the ground and after collecting himself and his things, he opened the map and headed towards Kirigakure. Who knows what he would encounter there but somehow he felt like this was home. In a way he felt kinda lost even though he was already there. I mean, how can you compete with all the skilled shinobi in this new place? Would he be ready or will he fail? But his worries were quickly dissipated when a fine,robust woman passed by. Shin puffed his chest and followed suit knowing he was right at home.
Hidden Heritage
While on a casual stroll in the village, Shin happened to find a newsstand. It carried his favorite Icha Icha Series and as he was about to grab it he noticed a rather strange book beneath it. It was titled Fūma Ichizoku no Hisutori (Fūma Clan History). However that is not what caught his eye. What did was a rather familiar symbol to him. It was that of a Fūma Shuriken. The same one he had seen on his mother's left arm. She had always alluded to it when Shin would ask her about it so he blew it off as nothing more than a rebellious teenager's folly. But now he knew it was much more than that. He bought the book and began to walk not noticing the people passing him by.
*Crash*
"Son you better look where you are go.....that face.....hmmm."
"(annoyed) That face what?!"
"Hmmm...Nagakura right?"
"(More annoyed but intrigued) Who are you and how do you know my surname?"
"My apologies. I have someone for you to meet. Would you mind following me?"
"(indifferent) Meh. It's not like I have anything better to waste my time with."

The mysterious man clothed in black shinobi attire lead Shin to a building in the distance. As Shin followed he noticed a simple, white star embroidered on the back of the mystery man. Shin looked up and the man had stopped in front of a small building with a large Fūma Shuriken hanging right above the door. Now surprised and full of questions, Shin enters the building and enters a room where a group of shinobi are sitting on the floor in a circle. They look up and Shin, giving him a sense of familiarity.
"Ah is this Nagakura? So she had a son did she? What is your name son?
"I am not your son and how the hell do you know my mom?!"
"Hot-blooded like her I see."
The man laughs but just as quickly he closes his eyes and his expression changes to that of sadness and regret.
"I am sorry to hear of your mother's death. I know it wasn't your fault. My condolences."
"(Enraged) How the !@#% do you know about my mother and I don't need your pity!"
Shin spits at the ground in front of the man. This is the first time in weeks that he had felt so much rage. And even more because he knew it was his fault...no it was his father's fault. And for that he would go to any lengths to kill him. He wanted the satisfaction of his own hands destroying the person who destroyed not only his life but his own flesh and blood.
"Shin Nagakura, for your mother's sake please control yourself!"
The man stood up and looked at Shin with a stern look. Shin flinched and with even more anger stood right next to the man face to face.
"Who are you to tell me what I should do huh? What is my mother to you that you dare mention her name?"
"Her father."
An air of silence takes over and Shin's face turns a pale, white color. He suddenly feels so foolish and stupid for his behaviour. Shin settles himself and speaks in a more calm manner to the man.
"Ahem....sorry about that mister."
"That's Mr. Shinpachi Okomura no Fūma to you and I understand. Your mother is a rather hard subject for you to deal with especially when it reminds you of how you killed her."
Shin looks at the man in disbelief. How had he known about what really happened?
"I know you are asking how I know and let me tell you, we are resourceful. I know far more than that. I also know that it was due all to your father. I told your mother that that man was no good for her. But she gave it all up for him. I don't regret what I said to her but I regret that I wasn't there for her at your birth and throughout your life. I know it wasn't easy living up to your father and I see that now because your mother was the same way. She had a fire in her spirit that one. She was very strong but not more than her heart. Her heart was her strength and how she made so many allies. Your father snatched her away and I never got word of her till just around the time of her death. She loved you very much. That much is evident from her sacrifice. Shin you are a Fūma. I know this is too much to ask right now but would you be willing to become a Fūma such as your mother was. You don't have to...."
Shin interrupted.
"Yes I would. No matter how much I tried as a child and as a man I could never please father. Now, today, might be the first time I truly make someone proud. The only person who really cared about me all along. My mother. It is time I stopped running and started fighting back and becoming stronger. Because one thing I am certain. "(speaking to the other members in the room) I sense there's great potential in this one."
Now you will go through intense training with your elders and you will obey their orders. (nonchalantly) Now then...tattoo time."

After some hours and a lot of hard liquor, Shin was branded the Fūma Shuriken on his left arm. It served as a way of identification but also as a way to show their clan's pride. Shin began to train with some skilled members and after all his hard work and effort, he was granted his own Fūma Shuriken. On it was inscribed his clan-given name, Keishi meaning Heir. For after a long talk with his Grandfather, he was selected as an heir to the Clan's leadership.
Now with more experience and a refined sense of self, Shin walked prouder and stronger knowing that his goal was that much closer to completion.
Other
Swords
Shin has two blades, Yoshi and Kōkai, which means Beauty & Regret. He is quite comfortable with their grip and weight. It is made of strong, yet basic, steel which luckily with great care they have not rusted or dulled. Shin wears them side at his side at all times and is always conscious of their presence...unless he becomes distracted with women. Despite having two swords, Shin only uses Yoshi. Kōkai is only used as a last resort when the enemy is beyond his skill. Reason it is called Kōkai is because it was the same blade he felled his own mother with. He vowed he would not use that sword unless his very life depended on it.
Samurai Mentality
Growing up with a renowned samurai father and other wise samurai as mentors, Shin has developed a battle etiquette of respect and fairness. He will refuse to fight unarmed opponents and believes in a honorable death. He believes that fighting is an art and something to impress the ladies with when he has a chance. He is quite wise despite his immaturity. He is able to clearly think in battle if the need is present and honors all warriors who fight for peace. Among his many teachings, Shin greatly capitalizes on the idea that killing is never the answer and before one draws his blade he must make sure there is no other option. He won't hesitate to have fun though.
The Fūma Clan
The Fūma clan (風魔一族, Fūma Ichizoku) is a renowned ninja clan, famous in at least Amegakure and the Land of Fire. It is unknown where they hail from.
They are well-known as an aggressive clan and fight using their characteristic giant Fūma Shuriken; a large, four-bladed weapon said to possess pre-eminent sharpness. This type of shuriken use has spread beyond the Fūma clan though, as Sasuke Uchiha used one during his fight with Zabuza Momochi and several other shinobi have been seen using them since.
While travelling the world during his younger years, Jiraiya faced a member of this clan in battle. Although the outcome of this battle is unknown, Jiraiya did manage to give this Fūma member a scar on his forehead. Years later, Jiraiya faced this same ninja again. This time, the Fūma member had been made into one of Pain's bodies. The scar on his head allowed Jiraiya to recognise him and subsequently all of Pain's other bodies as well.
