As we know there are 3 men who held the title of "God Of Shinobi" Rikudo Sennin, Shodaime Hokage, Sandaime Hokage.

The connection between the first 2 Gods can be built by how their relationship is described in the manga (and this is the only place in the manga where they are compared):

Now that scan basically tells us that both are in the same tier. As I have discussed with Derp Obito, that 1 is a warrior and is superior in fighting. While the other is a priest and superior in spiritual stuff. (Don't mistake this for that, the other sucks in spiritual , and vice versa. ) But they specialized in a different theme. As we know it is their KKG that turned them into Gods, well to be precise their ablity to control Tailed beast/(s) with their KKG. (SO6P is the stronger of the 2)

However the problem occurs with the 3rd God of Shinobi, Hiruzen as we know had the longest reign of the Hokage. Is that what made him the God of Shinobi? , Orochimaru however made it sound like it was due to his strength.
Whats most entriguing about this is that if Hiruzen was called the God of Shinobi.. he should've held the title for whole life.. like the other 2 did.

So what is basically being discussed here is that, What could be the reasons Hiruzen was called The God of Shinobi? Was his title just a hype title, or a literal title like Shodai's and SO6P's?

And discuss about what you did not agree in the Shodai and SO6P comparison. And if you did agree , please do say so.

I hope to have a serious discussion about this thank you.

Mh, this is an interesting thread. I think there is more to Hiruzen that has yet to be revealed. Maybe he did something monumental during a war or one of the best Hokage in terms of spreading the Will of Fire. But it may just be hype.

@illidanson
I honestly think that Hashirama and Madara are near the Rikudo Sennin's level. Obviously the RS is stronger but in terms of destruction capability, I think if Hashirama had the Rin'negan he could do something similar to what the RS did.

Hashirama and Rikodou in the same tier?

Come back when he has created a moon...

About Hiruzen he might have been on almost the same level as Hashirama in his youth, unfurtunately we don't know for sure.

I think Hiruzen's Shinobi no Kami title came from his long and prosperous reign rather than his sheer strength in combat.

Kishi made a grave mistake when he called hiruzen god. Even though i luv hiruzen, it would tk sum imaginaton to potray a man with no kkg as a god. Hashirama was manipulating wood and making stuff, s06p was rinengan. Hiruzen?

I think it came from his combat knowledge. I mean, he does supposedly know every Jutsu in Konoha. But old age hit. Hopefully he'll show what he's made of in the coming chapters.

Or we could simply say that Kishimoto did not think that far ahead when he gave Hiruzen that title, much has been retconned from part 1.

Hiruzen must have been all hype or he actually studied all kinds of jutsu, tech's and was known for his will of fire.

I don't think Hashirama is on the same tier as Rikudou, his power is unmatched.

Good point I agree. I doubt he was Hashirama tier in his youth. Also I think Kishi made a mistake with that title early on.

I think Hiruzen's was a retcon. He probably gained that title because of his jutsu prowess but in raw destructive power; Hashirama and Rikudou (Presumably) destroy him.

Technically speaking, Rikudou isn't a God of Shinobi because the world he lived in wasn't the Shinobi world, only his teachings led to the creation of the Shinobi world; and the God of that world was Hashirama.

I think Hiruzen's title came from the databook fact that he mastered all forms of Shinobi. He was probably the only perfect 40/40.

Also, Kabuto also said that the fusion between Madara and Hashirama is only a small fragment of Rikudo's strength. I don't see why you even compare Hashirama and Rikudo...

Sorry but simply because Kabuto said that Hashirama's powers were like a fairy tale, Just like the sages, Doesn't put them on the same tier at all.
All kabuto is saying that Just like the Sage, Hashirama was unbelievably strong. He wasn't saying they were comparable in strength or on them same tier.

As for Hiruzens title, He most likely got it for the same reason as Hashirama did before him, For unbelieve strength during his prime. You don't get the title simply for living so long.
Hiruzen was the only hokage to live long enough to feel the effects of old age, If hashirama lived as long as hiruzen, Who can say how strong/weak he would've become.

Or we could simply say that Kishimoto did not think that far ahead when he gave Hiruzen that title, much has been retconned from part 1.

Not really.
I don't know why people jump to that conclusion.

Hiruzen was the God of his time, Hashirama was the god of his, If Prime hiruzen existed and was called a God when Hashirama had the title then you would be right.

Hiruzen being said to be god of shinobi was all hype, i mean people didn´t even believe Hashirama´s power to be a real thing but instead they believed it to be a fairy tale....As for the so called prime Hiruzen, it is so painfully obvious he was the very same old Hiruzen EXCEPT that he had more strength and stamina...That´s it, he basically had more chakra and physical strength than old Hiruzen BUT no OP techs, at least there is no real evidence of any of that.

I don´t see how Hiruzen being the hokage that ruled the longest has anything to do with him being strong or not, THINK about it...he didn´t live in a particularly violent era, Hashirama and Tobirama literally were born in a bloody, merciless and relentless war, from the time they were small children to the day they became adults it was nonstop war.

Minato had to face 9 Tails (and Tobi who was already insanely dangerous with his Hashirama body+ Intangibility+Kamui dimension+Prep time+Knowledge about Minato´s abilities etc etc) Not only that but Minato had to protect baby Naruto and the village while fighting the Kyuubi (That´s why he didn´t redirect the Bijuu-dama right back at the Kyuubi so he wasn´t fighting freely but rather restricted in that fight).Hiruzen didn´t do anything against the Kyuubi except pushing it back with his pole????The whole time i clearly recall him asking over and over ´´where is Minato?´´.

Tsunade, how can she compete with Hiruzen in terms of longest reigning Hokage when the two major battles she had ended up with her getting her butt kicked (Pain, Madara)? .So in summary Hiruzen being Hokage for the longest time means absolutely nothing at all and should not be related in any way to his power because as i mentioned above he didn´t live in constant conflict.

Yes, Hiruzen stood his own at an old age againts a very very watered down version of Hashirama+Tobirama BUT let´s not forget that even though he was old at the time Orochimaru was merely toying with him, and was only trying to humiliate him prior to killing him and you can´t really say Oro was really fighting him, more like mocking him all the time as an spectator.

Hiruzen was obviously very strong just nowhere near Hashirama, a true ridiculosly strong shinobi. In fact i am pretty sure Nagato would own a young and prime Hiruzen as well, Tobirama too most likely,EMS Madara for sure.

Hashirama or madara would neever be on my level even if madara has a rinnegan or beetter yet if hashirama have 1 hashhirama would. Fail ccompared to me

What the actual hell? Rikudou and Hashirama in the same freaking tier? Just stop with the Hashirama wank, we have enough wank going around with the events of the latest chapters. No one is in Rikudou's tier, not when he is the Jinchuuriki of the God of Narutoverse. Kabuto saying they are both regarded as fairy tales means that they are both so powerful no one believed their strength was real.

Hiruzen was said to know every Konoha jutsu, was said to be a master of the arts, and was probably the strongest of his time in his prime, that is why he had the title: God of Shinobi.

Its just hype nothing else. Besides, "all the people that heard of shodai's strength"???? Aside the title in part 1 no1 ever knew anything about his power. Even madara was mentioned more then that and feared aswell.

The way I see it....

Hashirama = greatest destructive force/brute strength and phsyically the most gifted

Hiruzen = most skillfull. Physically he was the weakest out of all the hokage. He doesnt possess the speed of the 2nd or the 4th and doesnt possess the strength and stamina of the 1st and 5th but was able to make up for it with skill, talent and variety. He's like the federer/hingis of naruto if any of you are tennis fans!

Hashirama and SO6P are not in the same tier. SO6P created the Moon on his f*cking deathbed.

As to the question, I think that, unlike Hashirama and SO6P, who were called the God of Shinobi due to their might, Hiruzen was called God of Shinobi in the "god among men" sense, in that he was so knowledgeable, that they called him a God (knowing every jutsu in Konoha).
