I was under the impression that he's kinda slow :| Or maybe he just never seemed to be in a rush when fighting, with his hands in his pockets and all. Also his taijutsu skill is lacking (only 1.5 in the databooks, and they've even addressed it in a filler episode).

Databooks aren't exactly reliable. Nor is filler. In the manga he's shown to be capable at close-range as he blocked an upcoming strike, had good enough reaction to dodge an unexpected poison-tipped dagger at close-range and got into striking distance to punch Kankuro. For the few times he has to resort to close-range, he's been successful.

Also, Shino's speed isn't in question. It's the speed of his insects. Which certainly aren't slow.

The Op said he was "going to win". Shino even losing was a plot device to get him away fro the Sasuke vs Gaara fight.

And the Op is right in stating "Shino wrecked Gaara brother EASILY".

Even though he would have died from the poison if it weren't for his father, Shino still dominated the entire fight. Kankuro managed one hit on Shino based on luck. Every hit Shino made was based on his own strategy. Even poisoning his opponent did not aid Kankuro in the fight.
