Actually, despite Shikamaru being able to defeat S-Rank criminals with his brains, I think Shino is a bad match up for him.
Shikamaru can use the Shadow Bind and choke him I guess. It all really depends on who can land their moves first.
In my opinion, Shinos bugs are like Gaara's sand. They both move however they want it to. So if Shikamaru were to use the Shadow Bind, he'd be vulnerable to Shino's attacks because it doesn't look like all of Shino's moves use hand signs.

If Shikamaru was really smart he would avoid any fight he couldn't win. And he just can't win this matchup

But shikamaru takes his brillance to a hold new level.
Shino is indeed stronger but it would take a power house to take down shikamaru
Shikmaru uses chakara blades aswell. Also he can manipulate his shadows in away wear it can move objects .
But then again who knows we havn't seen the full potential of shino since shippuuden started. only time we saw him in action is when he tried to get tobi and that was only brefily.
