Not really. Both were in their respective villages to take the Chunnin exams, while Naruto and Sasuke hasn't had a chance to do that.

I understand that this isn't great logic, but in this case, it applies.

You're trolling. Gaara's sand has already been shown to hold up against chakra absorption from even the most powerful chakra draining tech. Madara couldn't absorb the chakra from Gaara's sand and he even stated so. Look at the Kage fight.
