Shino Aburame represents the overachievers in NV who get on with their business without ever getting any kind recognition or hype. Akamaru has probably had more panel time than Shino. Yet Shino has always been presented as useful as the best of times.

Shino has incredible abilities that make him unique from the other k11. He uses his insect kikaichu that live on his body and feed off his chakra as a weapon. Personally, I find that to be more interesting than the constant Chidori and Rasengan spam that unfortunately became so overwhelmingly typical of the later part of the manga.

What people don't know about Shino is that he is darn clever! He is a natural strategist like Shikakamu. He was ranked 4/5 for intelligence in the 3rd Data Book. And this is demonstrated in the Chuunin exams.

Shino needs props for putting up with Kiba and his ever free flowing verbal diarrhea so very patiently for so many years. Shino may not talk much but at least everything he does say is constructive and meaningful.

While Naruto and Shikamaru are busy running the village Shino seen busy with cultivation of the next generation of hero's. Apart from the two mentioned, Shino is the only other K11 member at work in chapter 700.
