Okay good thread but how does Shino's bugs tanking a sound pressure attack equate to his bugs tanking Temari's high level wind attacks that cut and slice. It is totally different from Zaku's attacks and Temari shouldn't be compared to Zaku either.

Are you telling me that Shino's bugs are durable enough to withstand forest busting attacks and metal slicing attacks?

it's possible his insect dome may protect against it. Shino wouldn't be caught so easily by an obvious widespread attack either. but i guess that's taking it further into a vs side. Just saying that the bugs shouldn't be easily moved by wind jutsu. the trees are much larger items than insects. i doubt that one jutsu could annihilate many of his insects if they were somehow caught in the blast anyway

It isn't a shock wave blast we are talking about. Zaku uses a C ranked pressure based attack and it pales in comparison to anything current Temari has. I don't think Shino's bugs can tank an attack that uses tiny blades that can now cut metal itself. Also I'm not trying to make this a VS thread either so yeah. I think we'll see Shino fighting Madara susanoo clones so we'll see to what extent are Shino's bugs capable of durability and eating chakra as dense and powerful as susanoo. Actually even though my theory of Shino fighting susanoo clones is far-fetched, it would certainly be an interesting fight don't you agree.

As for Shino not getting caught by a wide area of effect attack...... Don't you realize it would be harder for Shino to avoid attacks like I showed you in the two scans in comparison to what Shino has faced before? I'm quite sure even if a wind jutsu can't kill bugs, it can certainly blow them out of the way unless his bugs are extremely heavy and dense which I seriously doubt.

I was just wondering if it were me, or are a lot of ppl underestimating Shino and his bug techs? Maybe if i explain my thoughts on why, then i can get some insight of what ppl are thinking. ok so here goes.

1. Speed:
-ppl say Shino's bugs aren't all that speedy. i've even read that some said they were rather slow. i was baffled? from my understanding, Shino's bugs move as quick as ever. here's an example:

as you can see, from the moment Shino stood up, it only took 2 panels for the bugs to swarm from behind. there was no allotted time given to even warn Zaku of the impending danger. no sound at all was made by the bugs. (although in the anime, the bugs were heard, yet not seen by the surrounding crowd until it was too late). i find this to be an amazing speed feat in itself.

2. Durability:
-it has also been brought to my attention that Shino's bugs are rather fragile, and can't tank most attacks. i present my argument with these panels here:

as the other sound ninja explains, it is evident that those small amount of bugs were able to withstand and actually redirect a high pressured wind attack from close proximity range back out through Zaku's arms without budging. this brings me to believe that his insects, are in fact tank material, say for Temari's wind attacks, if gathered closely enough. Also, when fighting Kankuro, Shino does this:

mere kunai were not enough to fully penetrate the bug clone^

and another example here:

he used his bugs as a shield, naturally believing the projectile was an explosive one. So logically thinking, Shino deployed them with confidence that the bug shield would protect him from the blast. the only thing is, it was a poison gas bomb, not an explosive one, which caught him off guard. This brings me to also believe that they have the potential to defend against explosives of some nature.

-Intellect:
-It's been said in the latest databook that Shino's ability to focus on and analyze a battle situation quickly, as he's above the rest in this feat. yes...even above Shikamaru. He has a 4 in ninjutsu, when he doesn't use elemental ninjutsu at all. only his bigs. and a 4 in mind. you can see here he explains how he simultaneously communicates 2 groups of his insects when attacking from the front and the back:

-(backtracking a little) Also, it was because of Shino that his team was able to get to the chunin exams without a scratch because of his communication with the nature in the forest of death. the insects allowed them to retrieve the scroll with ease.

-Other Key Point(s):
-Because genjutsu affects activity throughout the prosencephalon structure of the brain, humans, dogs and other species of mammal are therefore all affected by genjutsu; however, the kikaichū, like all insects, lack such a structure to their brains, and so do not even notice it: as Shino Aburame put it, insects are ruled almost solely by five powerful senses alone, which makes them immune to genjutsu and gives the Aburame clan an ability to detect it when nobody else can.
-Close Range vs. Long Range: everyone basically knows Shino to be a mid-long range fighter. but he is also deadly in close range as well. (i figured i'd add this to the OT). so here goes:

You must be registered for see images

here, he is seen taking a high powered move to the head. yet gets up as if it's nothing. in that quick moment, he marks the end for Zaku as well. and also here:

getting close to Shino can prove to be a deadly mistake as well. Planting the tracker bug is nothing to be taken lightly.

-Conclusion:
-So i would still like to get people's opinions on this topic. i logically believe that shino and his bugs have the abilities necessary to tank wind techs such as temari's. and explosives. as well as speed feats ppl tend to forget about. the stealth of the insects are superb in the fact that when you realize they are on you, it is already too late. Prime examples: Kankuro and Zaku. In Neji's case, i believe Shino would wear him out faster than Neji could wear Shino out. but that would be for the vs section. I also believe he has the necessary intellect to defeat every one of the konoha 11, aside from naruto. but that would also be for the vs section. please shed your thoughts on this post and if you agree or disagree. thanks for reading! cuz it's all i can think of right now :D

that was the old naruto, in the new naruto, everyone who doesn't have either a sharingan or senju dna is worthless.

"He only uses insects and has like two/three attacks, they're slow and can be killed by fire/wind, he's poor at Taijutsu and he's only had two fights. Zaku is fodder, so who cares Shino beat him and he would have died against Kankuro's poison without his dad."
Real tired of reading that.

People hardly ever write essays defending Shino. You get a lot of posts and topics saying people underestimate him, but few take the time to defend him with a huge-arse essay. So this was a pleasing treat to read.

Shino being extremely poor in Taijutsu is another underestimation. Save from blocking a punch from Zaku and faux punching Kankuro, Shino has never engaged in close-combat (by choice or be force) and there's no way to tell how good/bad he is, save from the databook. Which not everyone believes in using.

So while I think his Taijutsu is poor, it's not as much most claim. His insects can overwhelm, surround, sense, capture, clone, all of which, plus their host's analytical mind, can help deal with opponents that would give him trouble.

Shino is just as dangerous close-range as any other Taijutsu-user.

Tobi acknowledged that he at least knew of Shino's clan. maybe we will see him taking some madara clones or something. but yeh i don't have the energy to make a vs thread regarding Shino, so i'll save the additional comments for later ;o

*sigh* that is how it seems these days. even the hyuga have been tossed aside. it's amazing how everyone wants the byakugan, but no one ever tried to steal the sharingan.

i completely agree. his taijutsu is on another level which utilizes his intellect + insects, rather than just speed and power. and shino once said, once the bugs get a taste of your chakra, it's almost impossible to escape them

Shino could've solo'd Obito if he didn't have S/T Jutsu.

lol Shino solos quite a few. hidan. zetsu. sasori would be a nice interesting match, but all in all Shino would come out the victor just barely
