I don't see why this is... Bad. I think it's an interesting development. Not many could have seen this form coming, it was a surprise and I liked that. It would make sense that God is a tree of sorts because trees are life-givers. That, and it takes from Christian/Norse mythology. I like that Kishi is branching out with the mythology, not keeping it strictly Japanese.
Plus, it's like a big tentacle monster...
But that's just me.

The Shinju was never meant to be offensive or hostile.

Even though this is the final form of the Juubi, it's not meant to try and kill everything.

If Obito wanted to destroy everything, he would have kept the Juubi in pre-final form state but the Juubi's current state (the Shinju) is necessary for the Mugen Tsukyomi.
