So, your medical shinobi but how do you know what you are healing? This is where the art of Diagnosis comes into play; something which you can read about in this weeks .

Read that and get back to me with any questions; then summarise key points for me please. ^^

  • With diagnosis just the right amount of chakra of a medical shinobi would be released into one of the tenketsu of a patient before being transmitted throughout their body and then returned back with appropriate datum. Although initially palpation is needed for performance of diagnosis to ease up the process, with time such won't be required. It would however be needed to keep hands in close proximity or use different types of chakra mediums which can just help out with the process.

  • The diagnosis is perhaps the most important portion with which the medical shinobi will be capable of gaining information about well-being of their patient ;
    • Physical State
    • Vital Signs
    • State of Micronutrients
    • Mental State (through scanning of the head; hormonal levels, chemicals and electrical currents)
  • Knowing the importance of chakra for an individual, through means of sensing chakra flow, medical shinobi will be capable of carrying out a diagnosis to a certain degree.

  • In addition, with usage of anything which advances our senses (byakugan, sharingan, advanced hearing, advanced sensing, chakra sensing) in one way or another, our job would be made faster and perhaps even finer.

Diagnosis:
- constitutes the initial step to medical treatment
- involves carefully releasing chakra via tenketsu in the hands to probe for anomalies
- the presence of both physical damage and mental illness can be ascertained
- certain mediums, such as water, can enhance the overall effectiveness of this phase
- dōjutsu and other advanced sensory abilities may also further expedite the diagnostic process

Questions:
- to what extent can diagnosis assess and/or determine comorbidity in a patient?
- how would a medical ninja be able to precisely determine the time of patient clinical death?

1. Your chakra, depending on how skilled you are, can determine any number of issues and simultaneous issues. Of course, the more your are diagnosing, the longer the diagnosing will take. It could vary from determining they are exhausted from simple observation, to determining poison affecting specific nerve endings; requiring physical contact and your chakra to find the cause of ailment.
2. Time of clinical death would follow the same rules of RL, once a certain criteria is met (brain dead, critical levels of blood etc) you can call the time yourself. You can also use the diagnosis method to determine cause of death and exactly how long ago (which I think was your questions, haha) by examining factors such as decay and or what microbes/insects are present on the body.

If there is nothing else, I have this Kunai here and I feel a bit stabby-stabby...

Shinta sensei please :T_T:
You... you want the stabby-stabby?

Hmm, while we wait for Pekoms to answer

*Shinta takes a kunai that had been rusting in nearby swamp-water, covered in all the infectious goodness that it brings and proceeds to slice into Pekoms right Biceps; roughly 12cm down from the shoulder. The kunai pierces 5cm deep into the tissue, slicing through the skin and into the muscle below.*

Now, Akasha... ignore the blood for the moment, it's not an issue... for the moment. Proceed to diagnose him please. ^^

When consent isn't a thing - feels bad man. :sniff:
Pecking order U__U'

Now, Shinta's about to teach you a little something called the Pecking Order... First, there are you two (Med-trainee's), then the dirt, the worms inside of the dirt, that bag of odd organs to be thrown out, Kami, then Shinta O__O' and then Scorps
...

Akasha would focus chakra within both of her hands and place them tenderly on Pekoms' frame near the created cut. Such she would follow with release of the chakra which would begin to spread throughout his body before descending back to her with required information.

"This is one dirty cut. Literally."

"The cut seems to be 5 centimeters in depth and 12 centimeters in diameter. However it seems to only have caused damage to the tissue and muscle. However I believe it is highly infected."

Very good... Someone should probably fix that now...

<__<

Oh, I guess that's going to be me xD

*Performing a few processes with his chakra, Shinta cleans himself and then the wound by waving chakra coated hands over Pekoms wound. He then hold his chakra coated hand over the wound to begin healing Pekoms arm like nothing ever happened.*

There, now don't say I never do anything for you U__U'

Hey Akasha... Sorry about this.

*With those words, a small pillar of earth; about the diameter of a baseball bat, suddenly erupts from the ground to smash into Akasha's left shin bone; square on from the front, making contact half-way up the bone. The force of the pillar was only created a spider-web fracture that radiated outwards from the impact to cover the entire bone, with smaller bone fragments breaking away from the initial impact site.*

So Pekoms... your turn. As you can tell, these wounds aren't as obvious, aside from the bruising you can already see appearing... could you diagnose the remainder of her injuries please?

*Shinta, through means unknown to both students, releases an ethereal snake composed of anaesthetic medical chakra to numb Akasha's pain slightly. However, it was not enough to put her to sleep yet.*

Pekoms internally condemned Shinta-sensei's crude actions; thankfully, it wasn't him this time. "Well, contusions are normally indicative of capillaries incurring damage; the pillar of earth is the definitive causality, but I wonder to what extent the damage extends. Please don't mind the cold hands," he said as he crouched before gently placing the palm of his right hand upon Akasha's left shin. Initiating the diagnostic process, he directed a small portion of chakra in periodic pulses through the tenketsu located in his hand. The chakra release functioned in a manner akin to ultrasound; it allowed for abnormalities, such as fractures, to be detected through a ninjutsu-induced means of precise palpation. "It would seem that this particular reiteration of sensei's 'pecking order' has resulted in a relatively moderate fracture, only insofar as the spiderweb-esque pattern of fracture is likely easily remedied."
Question:
- is describing the medical diagnostic process as essentially a rudimentary form of ultrasound an acceptable explanation? This question mostly stems from the general non-specificity of how the chakra med ninja direct into patients' bodies actually functions to identify abnormalities/anomalies.

Your initial scan would indeed be akin to an ultrasound, in that your chakra pulses through the patient before returning to you with the information for you to form a mental image of. Once an injury gives of a 'ping' you can focus more chakra to that area to build more in depth images and start gathering more data on things like; blood loss, infections, foreign material, hormones etc. This scan relays to you any and all information in relation to the subject's injuries and provides them to you in a manner akin to how you gain information from a dispersing shadow clone.

*Performing a few processes with his chakra, Shinta cleans himself and then the wound by waving chakra coated hands over Akasha's affected shin. He then hold his chakra coated hand over the wound to begin healing Akasha's bone to as good as new.*

Rightio, so any other questions or concerns with this method?
