I didn't want to start to "review" (I do what I can xd) another story before finishing my review on Shaman King (my second fav manga). But since I'm re-watching Evangelion with my sis, I thought this would be the perfect time to try to analyze this shocking story. But I must warn ya, I don't really remember well all the chaps
Now, I just started to read its manga(Sadamoto's ofc), so I will compare both stories. Also, this is a re-view on the original season, not the Re-build. When I finish to re-watch this original season, I'll write my thoughts on the Re-build.
Hahaha I'll start:
General information
About the mangaShin Seiki Evangelion(Neon Genesis Evangelion) is a Japanese franchise owned by Gainax. It first emerged out of a deal struck between King Records representative Toshimichi Ōtsuki and director Hideaki Anno. During its development, around chapter 16, the number of frames that could be drawn for each episode was drastically reduced due to scheduling restraints. This resulted in more experimentation on Anno's part, with several episodes reusing shots, using uncommonly long still frames, flashing frames of often rhetorical introspective, text and the final two episodes changed from their original concept into a psychological analysis of the main characters.
(And funny) The resulting 26-episode anime, animated by Tatsunoko Productions and Gainax, and co-produced by TV Tokyo and Nihon Ad Systems, was broadcast from October 4, 1995 to March 27, 1996 on TV Tokyo. It was critically and commercially successful and acclaimed for its innovative imagery, concepts, and refreshing take on the mecha genre and anime as a whole.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Several manga series have been developed based on the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series created by Gainax. While the first manga was thought to be a boost for public's interest in the upcoming TV series while it was still under production, the following ones are spin-off series with several differences.
The first manga from the series is entitled simply Neon Genesis Evangelion, written and illustrated by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, who also worked in the character designs from the anime. The manga closely follows the anime story with few changes made to the characters or certain events. The series was serialized in Shōnen Ace from Kadokawa Shoten starting in 1995, but it was put on hiatus until July 2009 when it resumed in the first issue of Kadokawa's Young Ace.[1] The chapters from the series have been collected into 11 tankōbon volumes which were published from August 29, 1995 to June 19, 2007.[2][3] Volume 12 was finally released in Japan on April 3, 2010, and an additional 13th volume will be released in Japan on November 22, 2012.[4] Viz Media licensed the series for English release and has published the 12 volumes between March 24, 2004 and March 15, 2011.
The review now

Summary: Ikari Shinji is a boy who just arrived to Tokyo-3 (why 3? Watch the series! xd or wait till I write it in the review of the next chaps xd), a city that has just fallen into an emergency state. He has came from far as his father has summoned him, he's waiting for some one to pick him up but suddenly finds him-self into a paralyzed city. Of course he feels confused. Then missiles start to explode not far from there. Is he in the middles of a damm war? Well, sadly (for him xd) he's not. A mysterious monster is the target.
Then captain Katsuragi Misato appears. She's the one Shinji has been waiting for. Very quickly she says to Shinji that the mysterious monster is an "angel" (o_o I don't remember I ever understood why an angel. I hope I do with this review xd) and that they're heading to NERV's Hq (where Shinji's father works).
As they are in their way to NERV's hq, they have the opportunity to watch the Angel's (This is Sachiel) power. No weapon seems to even scratch it. Then is revealed that's why NERV exists. They secretly developed a super weapon, "an artificial human" called >>Evangelion<<. And Shinji is their only option to pilot it (here's when ya question "Like why?" Hahaha I do remember why. You'll be surprised).
Shinji first refuses to pilot it, because he thinks there's no way in which he could do it. But after being seeing how injured Rei is -the other pilot-, he finally accepts. A bloody battle starts later. Shinji doubts of him-self too much, so he gets caught in the angel's attacks right almost right away. The beating is too hard, that the Eva unit gets in total silent. When it all seems lost, the unit re-activates it-self again. Has Shinji managed to do something miraculous?
...After moments of suspense it is revealed that the eva has gone into a rampage (Wtf? xd Kidding. Actually that's creepy, considering the story). The Eva defeats the angel, leaving a terrible aftermath behind.
Comments -_- I want to go to sleep, so gonna finish this now: I enjoyed the anime more. I feel it is more symbolic and mysterious than the manga. Specially because of was the battle narrated and how Shinji is portrayed.
