If Shikamaru's as smart as I believe he is, he'd already come prepared for that battle. He'd already think of ways to counter Dosu's sound attacks long before the battle started (unlike his match/first encounter w/ Temari) like ways to reflect, refract, or attenuate sounds by using different mediums, or somehow create a vacuum. well that's what I would've done if I knew Dosu's attacks already. Dosu would be in a HELL of a disadvantage. However, if Shikamaru isn't as smart as I think he is, and doesn't come prepared, I think he'd lose. In other words if Shikamaru and Dosu were meeting for the first time at the finals, I think Dosu would win.

if shika knew ahead of time who he's fighting then he could outsmart him if not dosu wins because theres nothing u can do if he just keeps spamming sound accross the whole field

Dosu whould probably won back then. Shikamaru is smarter now but he lost against Temari too. Dosu should have some advantage because they were fighting in an arena and Dosu uses sound.

IMO Temari was more intelligent than Dosu and Dosu would be easier to trap with Kage Mane because he is a cose-mid range type.

I wonder about that. She may be smarter than Dosu but Dosu is smart enough to avoid Shikamaru's shadows.

Dosu was demonstrated to be a very alert and logical ninja. He rarely rushed into anything before first observing and analysing the situation.

It's true, Dosu was the cautious type, but it ended up being his downfall. He waited and waited to confront Gaara when he was alone and "vulnerable" but because of this, he was slaughtered by Shukakku without even fighting back (I believe he would have at least survived long enough to analyze Gaara without Jinchuriki powers being present.)

Also, Dosu works best with all-out attack types to help test his hypothesis like Zaku. Kind of like how Kakashi is using Naruto an Gai as geuinea pigs attacking Tobi currently.
