Shikamaru has reviewed the footage from Kakashi and Zabuza's fight on the bridge beforehand.

Zabuza knows he is fighting someone from the Nara clan.

Shikamaru wins. Zabuza gets caught in shadow possession, since he's already viewed footage from the fight he knows everything Zabuza has to offer and thus sets up a foolproof strategy to catch him. He'd be many steps ahead of Zabuza.

You're overestimating Zabuza, and underestimating Shikamaru's intelligence. Current Shikamaru would outplay Zabuza ten v none. I'm positive everyone would agree to this resolve.

I can't give an accurate answer. I don't know much about Shikamaru other than his intelligence and shadow manipulation technique. I want to say that his methods of offense are too slow to catch Zabuza, and that he'll be blinded by mist and beheaded, but i'm not entirely sure.​

Lmao. Shikamaru's "making a strategy" without giving a proper argument won't help the thread. Shikamaru is literally trapped inside a cloud of mist against an opponent that can approach with shadow clones to nullify his attempt to make him step in his shadow, and also, Shikamaru can't see him or hear him. Zabuza could just knock him with a suiton, or distract him with shurikens forcing him to dodge or block and then blind siding him. Do i need to remember that the time Shikamaru can keep his shadow up is limited? Zabuza kas knowledge on Nara clan (i doubt Booker used this as a relevant factor of knowledge if it doesn't have something to do with him knowing about shadow possesion jutsu). Anyways Zabuza doesn't need knowledge because he'll notice Shikamaru can parallyze him if he approaches if he uses clone feints.

Now, is anyone gonna argue that Zabuza is faster and stronger than Shikamaru?

Even with Shikamaru's intelligence, if Zabuza gets the mist jutsu off it's over. He cannot see him, His sense of hearing is nothing special, He isn't reacting to zabuza's attacks in thick mist and so on.

Shika's only chance is catching him before hidden mist goes up, If he does get it off there is nothing shikamaru at all.

Zabuza conjures Hidden Mist - Shikamaru through adaptable intelligence erects a several meter wide circular shadow around himself -- His body's natural shadow being the vessel for conjuration.

Zabuza is incapable of seeing through the mist, only through smell, and sound can interaction become noted -- In every case, Shikamaru's shadow have been shown to be silent (clearly).

-Zabuza attempts a swift decapitation
-Shikamaru's shadow restrains Zabuza
-Shikamaru utilizes the shadow to perform Kage Nui no Jutsu -- Binding Zabuza
-Shikamaru combines prior technique, and uses Kage–Kubishibari no Jutsu -- Suffocating Zabuza, or utilizes a simple kunai to the brain tactic
-Zabuza dies

Q; How does Shikamaru know where to strike via kunai?
A; Connection with chakra allows indirect sensory -- If x is connected to y's chakra in close proximity, than y will know of x's location (i.e. Shikamaru will know of Zabuza's location once he's in contact with his shadow chakra).

Shikamaru clinically murders Zabuza.

Food for thought;

Shikamaru dodged Kakuzu's elemental assault -- Are Zabuza's water ninjutsu faster than Kakuzu's? Asinine question clearly -- If Shikamaru is capable of evading an Akatsuki member's ninjutsu, I find it foolish to believe he'd not evade a lesser.

Food for thought II;

Expecting Zabuza to not act instinctively as he's done several times canonically (i.e. mist -> assassination) -- Zabuza acts on instinct similar to how he's done prior -- Zabuza trapped in Kagemane -- Zabuza dead. Simplistic.
