Ok so obviously Shikamaru is not even close to being better than everyone but he has the potential to be super OP and unbeatable.
Here's how.
First step, Shikamaru needs to put his Shuriken holster in a spot that no one puts there's
Second Step, Shikamaru get's someone in the shadow
Third Step, Shikamaru has either two options. He could either reach into his holster and grab a shuriken and throw it (He will not be hit because the person will grab nothing because of the positioning of his holster) or he could reach in a spot where his opponents holster is, grab a kunai and stab himself (he will be hitting himself with his fist because once again, the position of his holster)

Shikamaru, and the whole nara clan really, could easily be able to get super quick and super cheap wins over basically anybody. Of course, this wouldn't be very fun and would never happen because of plot no jutsu but just something to think about

EDIT: For all you idiots that do not know how to read, I will bold this so you look at it. I'm not saying he can kill everyone. I'm saying he can kill people who are good shinobi, not the super elite, and stop bringing Itachi and Madara up. THEY'RE DEAD

Yeah true. But catching them in the shadow is another thing entirely. And just because he catches them doesn't mean he can make them do what he does. The stronger the enemy the harder they are to control.

this is very true, but there are ways to break his shadow jutsu (any form of chakra release like curse mark, tailed beast, etc.) plus most of Shikamaru's fights are long because he lacks variety in his skills, it's simply decent taijutsu and shadows. so he spends 80% of the fight trying to hit them with his shadow moves. and also techniques that don't requirs handseals or movement (namely KG) can strike him and force him to break the shadow technique

He can repeatedly stab them, it doesn't take too long to do that.
But I'm not saying he has to hold a bunch of people, im talking about a quick one on one fight.

Almost... but i disagree. His lack of stamina makes this impossible. Also there are shinobis out there that knows his techs..both strong & weak points.
example: How can he win against his Father Shikaku?
