It was probably a generic jutsu he performed that involved the earth element, and because it was a group jutsu, how do we know that he wasn't just giving it power. We can say that Sakura has mokuton when she used the substitution jutsu. Lol

Well the hard part is if it's actually his affinity or not.

He asked Kitsuchi to tech him the handseals for a simply/basic doton that anyone could perform.

So yes he has it, but whether it is his forteit IDK.

..Just, no.. We cannot, by any logical sense say that Sakura has Mokuton if she were to use substitution jutsu (which, so far i don't think she ever has.)

As for Shikamaru's Earth release, it's nothing special really.. He, Ino, and Choji all have the ability to use it to make little, weak, but multiple mud/earth walls. They showed it in the manga, a while ago actually. lol

Actually Sakura has used substitution jutsu before. It was in her only worthy fight in Part 1, when Kin grabbed her hair and she cut it off, then did substitution jutsu to stop Kin or Zaku from killing her. Ino joined the fray to help out her friend and Shikamaru and Choji joined in too to back her up, then Sasuke woke up and became Curse Seal Sasuke V1 for the first time and the rest is history.
