Shikamaru could've easily won in the chuunin exams

Shikamaru uses his Shadow Possession to capture Temari in the finals of the chuunin exams. I've thought up many ways he could've won.
1.) He could have thrown a kunai on the ground, done the shadow possesion, and then walked to the kunai. Picking up the kunai, Temari wouldn't have anything to grab. Therefore, he can freely throw a kunai at Temari, causing major damage, and she'd have no weapon to throw back.
2.) He could have made Temari use her fan on herself, or even throw her fan to him to hit her in the head with it. Another instance where Temari wouldn't have been able to attack.

These are just two, there's many more options he had that could have been carried out in the 10 seconds or so he had left with the possession and that don't require expending chakra. I feel that Kishi could have easily just given Shikamaru the win, especially before the Sasuke Retrieval Ark, to show leadership by example.

Yeah, I think Kishimoto just wanted to show us the character of Shikamaru more. I mean, he basically DOES win the match. Like, in the watcher's head- he did win, he just doesn't win technically. Plus the whole exam got hijacked anyway so the outcome really didn't matter all too much in the end.

Well he did all he could to catch Temari and he succeded but he ran out of chakra quickly after it, so possibilities:
1) better strategy
2) after caught he would have to quickly finish her off, really quickly

Course he would. He would've killed Tayuya in an instant if he got the chance.

When the only other option is get killed by here in a giant arena (temari wouldve happily done it in an instant) I think he would've.

Idk about winning it, there was still Gaara and Sasuke to worry about. But yeah, he's the only one that was promoted to chunin at that specific exams.
