Here Shikaku states that the speciality of the three clans (Yamanaka, Nara, Akimichi) is to block. The only thing is they don't have enough chakra to hold the juubi down.

Here he asks Kakashi about the fights up till now.

I think that Kurama will end up giving Shikamaru and maybe Choji and Ino chakra so that the Ino-Shika-Cho formation will work.

These links certainly aren't proof that it will happen that way but that is what I thought when I read this issue.
