I wouldn't say he's strong he just has a tricky ability to avoid and borutos gotten significantly stronger since the chunin exams

Unless shikadai can be as brutal as shikamaru in the hidan fight then i wouldn't put him in the top 5 and that's mainly a intelligence feat aswell

But hopefully he'll have better combat abilities than his father

Actually, he's pretty strong. His wide area shadow paralysis jutsu could screw over people like it did to boruto and presumably yodo. You gotta remember that boruto is really fast among the konoha genin, so shikadai being able to hang with and even beat boruto is impressive.

Ce says diff though, he easily handled boruto, who isn't a slouch when it comes to genin ranking

Well like I said shikdais powers are only tricky in close range setting which they are forced to fight in and won based on intelligence and we still don't know the other genin powers

I'm sureteam shikdai each have secret powers to be useful but I'm more so interested to see chochis full abilities she's the truth combatant of the team

True, but at genin levels no one we know of is just gonna sit back and spam big aoe long distance jutsus... mostly everyone we know of genin wise has to get in close

Just like when he had back up when he beat boruto, right? The best possible way for other genins to beat shikadai is to attack from a long distance, if one tries to engage in CQC then you're gonna get caught by shadow possession at some point.

Sumire,mitsuki,boruto,sarada and shikadai. Iwabe could be a contender too, i guess.
