I know he has larger scale katon and is slightly more skilled in taijutsu but how does he solo.

Madara's team wins.He can tell the difference between real bodies and clones, and this is a huge counter to Itachi's moveset. He has clones aswell.. As far as i know giant katon remains uncountered and nor Kakashi or Madara is falling into Itachi's tsukuyomi. By restricting manda 2 i guess you're really restricting Manda 1, aka the only counter the team has for Juubi sized Katon.
