How do you know which abilities you unlock when you get MS?
I mean... Once you unlock it, you have no idea of the powers available to you... They are different for everyone. For Obito, he has Kamui. He has not been seen to have amaretsu, or tsukiumi... How did he know such a power like Kamui even existed?

If one thought that, say, teleportaion was impossible...
And your MS ability was teleportation...

well, i believe there are the basic three plus a unique tech to each person, or at least one of a list of unique traits that person may get. I say this because if you think back, we have seen sasuke, madara, and itachi (3 of the 4 prominently shown uchiha) using susanoo. That said, we know susanoo is a combo of using ameterasu and then tsukoyumi to manipulate it into susanoos form, so based on the fact that 75% of the prominent uchihas can use all three, it is safe to assume that an uchiha who reaches MS level, can use those to some degree, we know the actual tech is weaker or stronger from uchiha to uchiha but it is there. Itachi was believed to have had the greatest tsukoyumi ever known right until he fought sasuke and sasuke broke it in an instant. Now, itachi could have had another tech never shown, or it could have been an augmentedly strong tsukoyumi that sasuke somehow naturally outpaced. Unless kishi shows a new random tech for sasuke, his special tech is being able to actually manipulate ameterasu fire, not just unleash it. We have little knowledge of madaras. The only thing we have good proof of is the example of varying strength of their techs, for awhile sasukes was only a skeleton, relatively weak compared to the others, itachis had weaponry and i believe musculature as well, while ET madaras was a fully formed, fully armoured perfect susanoo. That said, obito could feesibly just never have used his basic techs. Susanoo would be pointless if you were already accustomed to becoming non solid and warping, and ameterasu itself is far too volatile and wild for obitos style throughout the storyline, he opted to be a more cool and reserved enemy, meaning ameterasu wouldn't really fit him. And he seemed to have things so well planned from the start, there also was little reason to use tsukoyumi to manipulate people much, or he could very well just have a weak tsukoyumi. I would venture to guess that once an uchiha attains MS, there is an inherent urge to try and unleash these techs, if for no other reason than they were brought up in the clan training and expecting to obtain these ocular jutsu, so the first thing they would do would be to "play around" with them and find their abilities. Obito perhaps just found his non solid and or warping ability and never bothered with the others.
