I take it as sharingan in general so sharingan is a doujutsu, one of the great threes (byakugan, sharingan, rinnegan) Like all doujutsus it has the ability to locate chakra points in a person's body. Sharingan is unique because unlike byakugan and rinnegan, its skills in genjutsu are extremely high. Not only do they have the ability to perform strong genjutsus that would give the opponent a hard time of escaping, they also have an ability to spot genjutsu by checking if the chakra flow in their system is disturbed. There are levels of sharingans : 1T, 2T, 3T, Mangyekyou Sharingan, and EMS. Each sharingan levels gives the user enhanced abilities of the sharingan. For example, the MS could perform amaterasu but they will be recoiled with pain. However, EMS has the ability to perform amaterasu without the pain. Each level you upgrade your sharingan, you gain extra abilities like spotting higher level illusions..
Also, to awaken a sharingan the user will have to face a near death experience and has to grow hatred in their hearts.

Jiraiya smirks deviously as he launches at the Uchiha before him. He starts by punching the student in his face knocking him away several meters. Jiraya then creates a spear of electricity from his mouth and launches it at Sasuke. He then creates a whip of lightning striking Sasuke with it multiple times.

Description: The user emits a spear of lightning from their mouth. The spear can then split apart to strike multiple enemies.
"Damn, that guy can sure pack a punch," Sasuke said as he flew several meters back after taking that punch. After getting up in his feet, he is surprised by a spear of lightning which stabs him in his stomach, electrocuting him at the same time. "AHHHHH!" Saduke yelled in agony while putting his hand over his stomach where he was stabbed. He then manages to stand up, but is exhausted. "Huff, is that the best you can do, sensei?" He was then repeatedly slashed with a whip made of lightning. Sasuke stayed low on the ground as he was getting slashed, trying to get over the pain. He couldn't move as much do to all the lightning, some parts of his body was paralyzed. "Hhhhuu, you'll.. pay for this.. huff, ill make.. you regret it!" Sasuke yelled.
It'll be worth it, trust me.
Jiraiya then throws 5 kunai with explosive tags around Sasuke, encircling him within the kunai and activating them. The kunai are distant enough not to kill him but close enough to injure him alright. As Sasuke is thrown around like a rag doll by the kunai, Jiraiya throws himself at Sasuke with a rasengan, knocking it into his chestal area.

As Sasuke lied in agony, five kunais encircled around him, each with its sparked explosive tags. As much as he wanted to talk, the pain from the lightning took over his body. He experienced so much pain that all he can do is think. Think of what would happen in a couple minutes.
"Would I die? Or will I live to see yet another sunrise."

"Shit.."
The tags explode, causing him to get beaten around by the explosives surrounding him. As struggled to get up, he sees his sensei running towards him with a rasengan.
"I swear I will get revenge on this bastard!" He thought to himself as he was pushed back in the air with great force after taking the rasengan to the chest.
"Would I die? Or will I live to see yet another sunrise."

Jiraiya approaches the lying Sasuke on the ground, grabbing him by the neck and looking into his eyes. Suddenly, his eyes become bloody red and a pupil appears on both his eyes. Jiraiya smiles and helps Sasuke get up while carrying him. He had finally activated his Sharingan.
