While I do believe that the sharingan is op, It is not that op.

It is clearly stated that it is "said" that the sharingan has the ability to read and defeat all gen/nin/tai jutsu. That means that it is just word of mouth/story for it to be able to read and defeat all three of those jutsu.

In the data book it say it discerns which means it can perceive the mechanics of it, and not defeat it. However in the perceiving the mechanics of the jutsu it may allow the person to be able to formulate a plan of action against it. The clear and obvious person to point out doing this is Itachi. With Itachi's mighty eyes he sees the weakness in all jutsu and creates a counter for everything, effectively defeating it (however it will not defeat all jutsus simply by looking).

They both were screwed without each other. Itachi have proven to be better than Sasuke at casting Genjutsu, but not breaking out.

Itachi could've done the same thing with a clone.

Also, he was an Edo, so he couldn't feel the pain from biting his lip
