I've seen many make the argument that Mihawk is stronger than Shanks because Shanks is a swordsman. This just doesn't sit right with me though; why would a man who lost an arm exclusively fight with a sword? Why would it be implausible to suggest that he, similar to Sanji, is well-versed in the art of the kick? Maybe he's a combination swordsman/leg-fighter. I don't know about both though, as not having a free hand may be disadvantageous.

What do you think Shanks' fighting style includes that places him among the most powerful beings in the world?

I doubt he's actually a swordsman similar to Mihawk and Zoro. He isn't the type of guy who follows the bushido code and has been training his swordsmanship ever since he was a little kid and fighting in Dojos unlike Mihawk and Zoro who devote their lives to swordsmanship.

I think Shanks fights like Roger. A generic pirate who just uses a sword because he feels like it. I mean if you look at Shanks' sword you can see that its just an ordinary cutlass and not some legendary super death night star sword.

He fights with a sword, Haki and kicks like Rayleigh.

Roger was shown with a sword and a pistol. Thats as generic as it gets yet he was up there with Whitebeard and Garp.

I think he's a swordsmen he always pulls his sword out as his go to fighting style for WB and when challenging MF to a fight. Although he is pretty darn tall has long legs so he probably uses arnament haki how vergo used it. Full body arnament haki.

Also his conquerors haki helps to clear the fodders approaching to attack him. I agree with Fireplay, his just following his captain who also held a sword and a pistol. Shanks probably has a pistol also.

So i'm going to say, Shanks style of fighting consists of 75% swordsmanship and 25% something else. (Haki or Devil Fruit )

Actually, Shanks is pretty damn short Lol

Or maybe he just looks short because everyone around him are monsters when it comes to size. Well, taking account OP standards, Shanks is pretty short.

His art style is probably that of a more mature, less hyper Luffy minus the stretching. Master of his upper and lower body, just like Luffy is master of his upper and lower body, a mix of Zoro and Sanji.

I was trying to compare him to Akainu when they clashed sword to fist aha?

I meant Shanks is pretty tall by the standards of normal humans in onepiece not including giants like Oz and whitebeard and those large marine vice admirals. His tallness is like the same as the admirals, and even doflamingo and he grows everytime we see him imao

and he's not even standing straight.

Shanks is shorter than Marco who is around the same height as Ace.

IMO he's a mix martial artist type or mixed fighting style type. I believe that he use his sword along with melee fighting with his arm and legs enhanced with haki and probably more advanced shigun type stuff.

Take Zoro, Sanji, Luffy and maybe Rob Lucci's fighting styles and mix them together and that what I believe shanks fighting style will be

To me what seperates Shanks from Mihawk is his "Kings Haki" and thats why I say Kings Haki is the strongest power in the verse. Because a yonko is not the WGS yet he is a yonko ..only way to explain that is Shanks not only being a swordsman..but a "Kings Haki Swordsman"

Haki + insane base speed, the dude reached to MF before his ship even got there and no one noticed him. I'd imagine we'll get a good explanation on how CoC is used in battle.

I think he's vergo+zoro, but much more refined, and has incredibly op haki. Considering he's a one armed yonko and always goes for his sword first, I assume he's not that far behind Mihawk, especially after factoring in his conquerors haki. No doubt it has uses that we haven't seen. When he needs to though he should be able to coat himself fully in haki, akin to vergo. Can't wait to see what he can do!

Shanks isn't a swordsman as much as he is good ( amazing ) with a sword. He can fight with or without a sword.

Since oda said shanks hasn't lost any strength after losing his arm, his haiki must be the strongest. He might use a sword with haiki or just for fun

I believe that he's stronger than Mihawk. As someone already said he isn't your typical swordsman who would devote his life to be a swords man like Zoro and Mihawk. So,he's not really a swordsman according to OP standards of Swordsman but his fighting style does involves swordsmanship. IMO sword for Shanks is same as bisento for WB.

Mihawk is a better swordsman than Shanks (but Shanks is probably very skilled with a sword too), but Shanks is better overall.

Maybe his conqueror's haki is so good that he beats his opponent mostly by draining their power/ fighting spirit to a great extent and then finishes with immense armament haki contained sword.
