Was shanks supposed to be the king of pirates?
In the latest chapters big mom was so sure of being the king/queen but was stopped because of the lack of military force.
The normal idea and reason for anyone to become king is to rule the seas and have all control of trade/money/power that make the world go round.
luffys idea which i think is close but not exactly like shanks idea of king, is to witness and live life to the fullest/happiest with your family or people you would die for.
Shanks idea i believe is just like this but it was mostly influnced on him by roger unlike luffy who naturally had that desire. Thus hince the lack of ambition to become pirate king and in stead pass the will onto luffy.
I think if shanks had not lost his arm his Battle power would be significantly higher. Thats the reason why he has not become the king yet because he was not able to move pass his limitation with one one arm.
He knew giving that arm would cost him all chances of becomeing king but he also knew he wouldnt have been able to be the king that roger had hope for on the day of the excution.
So shanks decided on a new role... to hold or maintain the balance of power between the 4 strongest. Untill the day luffy would come to once agian reunited them like roger.
Shanks bet was more of a moral decision as sharnks knew he did not have the will or want to fight to be king so entruting luffy he saved his life 2 times if i can recall correctly and these times were not planned for shanks but rather a intuition.
Sharks arm was the more than just an arm but the key to shanks way to the top sacrificed for the boy we know so well.
