[Spoilers] Shanks and mihawk relationship

OK so now many of you thinks that mihawk is above shanks which makes him automatically above many younkous but that's not true at all, marine said that they used to fight each other but maybe After losing one arm he asked mihawk to teach him sword fighting because thats the only possible reason since fighting with sword is most suitable style when you have only one arm, mihawk can't take down shanks because of haki and all, they were not fighting they were training........

Imo Shanks > Mihawk, but that's not the point, I feel their duels were just for fun, like they were doing it to pass time and it became popular, in fact it might even be for that reason that Mihawk was considered the world strongest swordsman since he could clash evenly with a Yonko using only his sword(s)

Ive seen a theory that Mihawk is actually shanks' first mate and he has mihawk spying on the government for him don't know how true it is but it seems possible luffy is trying to get a better crew than shanks' and I suppose he would have the best at their craft so it isn't to farfetched to say the worlds greatest swordsman is a redhaired pirate

Shanks is >>>>> than Mihawk in overall battle strengths. Having CoC is a clear thing that shows Shanks superiority. I believe that Mihawk and Shanks duels are only for fun knowing Shanks, and Mihawk, who is a no fun guy took every duel seriously. He wont duel against Shanks now as it would tarnish his pride for having to duel a one handed man eventhough Mihawk knows Shanks power hasnt deteriorated. A man who blocked Akainus fist without breaking a sweat and at the same time made the Marineford War halt is not someone to be underestimated considering as Oda states it " If Akainu is the main character of this manga it would be finished in two years".

those duels are not serious in my opinion.If it was a serious fight there must be a winner but no one said who won those duels.so its safe to assume they are just warming up.

that seems too good to be true...I like the concept but wouldn't the World Gov know who the first mate of a yonko

shanks over mihawk but not by much. shanks is a yonkou, mihawk is not. shanks has kings haki and mihawk hasn't proven he does. he might but its not a canon feat yet so theres no argument. now if mihawk shows kings haki this thread will then be relevant.

Yeah Shanks is one of the four strongest pirates. It's crazy to think that Mihawk will be stronger becausee they use to be rivals.
It's like saying Gekko Moria was stronger than Kaidou before he got his ass kicked in the new world.
^^Crazy right? No Shichibakui can be of that level but Mihawk comes damn well close.

But Mihawk is not a regular shichibukai.He is the world strongest swordman and that's not a little thing.

We don't know how Shanks fight but if he uses sword then by default Mihawk is stronger...well at least in swordmanship.

Mihawk is superior in terms of sword skills and his title proved this but Shanks is more than just a sword style fighter. He can use all color of haki to better than anyone else in the series.
Think of it as Rayleigh or Prime Rayleigh. Mihawk is definitely a better sword fighter than Rayleigh but Rayleigh would still beat Mihawk in a fight thanks to his strength and haki.

Not if they started off together like luffy and zoro luffy had a bounty long before zoro plus shanks and luffy seems to have similar personalities where I think mihawk will only fight when necessary like at MF

That's what i'm saying, shanks is stronger than mihawk. Mihawk's fanboys are putting him above shanks unnecessarily
Mihawk is just teaching him different style of fighting for compensation of his arm, without swords also he is stronger than mihawk.

I don't see any point in these pointless logics "such as those who also uses kicks along with their swordsmanship do not fall under his title" to twist Mihawk's title. Those who have swordsmanship as their main fighting/primary fight style are all swordsman. I am not sure what part of it is so hard to understand. You fight at your best when you fight using your art of expertise. So you're weaker than Mihawk as long as you have your art of expertise as swordsmanship and it doesn't matter how great your skills are in other fields as it'd still be inferior to your main fighting style. So if you can't beat someone when you fight at your best then you're not beating him with your other skills which are inferior to your primary fighting style"Except for special cases".

If you have taijutsu as your main fighting style then you're getting beaten by Gai if he's stated to be the best/strongest taijutsu user. Sasuke doesn't have taijutsu as his main fighting style so he'd be able to beat him as he's stronger than Gai when fights using his primary fighting method which isn't taijutsu. If he decides to fight Gai with taijutsu alone then he's getting beaten without any question. That said Shanks remains beneath Mihakw as long as he has swordsmanship as his main fighting style and it doesn't matter how great his COA,COO and COC are,it doesn't matter if he's a fruit user, also it doesn't matter how strong his kicks are, he'd still be inferior to Mihawk as along as his art of expertise is swordsmanship.

There is an astronomical difference b/w Moriah and Mihawk. Shanks still considers him to be his rival but Kaido doesn't with Moriah. Mihawk even now believes that having a match with Shanks is unfair in his favor which says something about the guy. None uses Moriah to explain Kaido's greatness but even the man who once hailed as the strongest pirate finds it necessary to mention Mihawk while talking about how great his fellow Yonko is, Shanks specifically singled out Mihawk from his adventures when talking about the possibilities that could've inflected damage on his face.

Whenever there is something about Shanks happens Mihawk is there either directly or indirectly like how Roger has always been mentioned whenever someone talks about Whitebeard. That's the kind of relation they hold. They're being mentioned even now along side each other because both are at the top.
