Great. So tell me. What do you understand by shadows? Both in general and with respect to Naruto-verse. Share whatever you can about the Nara's secret technique.

We use shadows to attack, defend and even control peopl or objects. Looking in the canon thread, seems we can even hide things in shadows. Shadows are affected by light and fire (because they produce light) so both can make the Shadows retract. I don't know too much, which is why I'm here senpai..

How does shadows interact with elements of the basic 5?

If I'm correct, I'd say they're either equal or 1 rank below earth, wind, lightning and water, and lose 2 ranks when against fire due to the lighting going against the shadows.

Alright. So shadows play on equal terms with non-light emitting elements. So this includes all elements except Fire (and different versions of Fire that emit light). So it is neutral against Water, Wind, Earth etc. Shadows are also neutral against lightning techniques. However, there are certain lightning techniques that specifically state that they emit light. Watch out for those, because they too follow the same rules as fire.
As for how shadows react to Fire,

When a Nara shadow jutsu is incomplete and a large source of light comes into play between the user and target, the advance of the shadow is slowed (B rank fire), halted (A rank Fire), or pushed back to user (S rank and Forbidden Fire)
