Shadow Clone Jutsu - Why Forbidden?

Possible reasons for the Shadow clone Jutsu being forbidden...

  • If one of the clones is killed(highly unlikely), the original can also die

Since it has been present since the first chapter, no one really remembers the fact that Naruto's signature move was a forbidden Jutsu to begin with. What is the downside to that Jutsu that it was forbidden? Only when Madara mentions it in 611 do I think that Kishimoto may have placed a big twist with regards to the shadow clones....
