Everyone has their own role, but if we're talking about necessities, I'd say the only one that could go without effecting their adventure is Usopp... Brook was needed before they even had a chef or a shipwright, so how you don't think he's pivotal to the story is beyond me.

This has to be a joke right?

Not at all, name a character that can't be replaced in the crew. Any character might leave or get replaced by another, Oda can always find a way around it and work things out. They didn't have Sanji,Nami,Brook and Chopper at Dressrossa, but they survived. Nami wasn't around to guide them towards Zou, hell there were no navigators in the ship to began with, they survived. Zoro and others aren't present in the ongoing arc, Luffy and co will survive in a way or another. There isn't a single crew member that you can say for certain that the crew won't survive without him/her.

Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to say that it's fine with replacing them or anything. I just can't wrap my head around this whole "this character is more important and this character won't have an impact on the crew even if he/she abandon the crew" BS. There isn't a single useless character or less useful character in the crew, at the same time there isn't a character that cannon be replaced or abandoned.
