Even itachi's genjutsu doesn't last forever. He'd need his eyes to reapply it after a while. The alliance would eventually wake up if the moon was destroyed.

The moon is just to used to cast IN. The moo- doesn't trap people in IN. Destroying moon mostly won't work like Edo

Itachi's is not infinite though. This one is! The moon is not the source of its infinite duration! It is the sheer power of the genjutsu that makes it infinite, so people would not wake up and they'd still be wrapped up by the shinju! The moon was only used to cast it on the whole world (so that Madara did not have to go putting people under it one by one).

The genjutsu is as infinite as the moonlight. If it was completely infinite there'd be no one alive by now. Remember, it was stopped at some point. And using jutsu names as explanations of their power or nature is BS. Shadow clones are made of shadows, right?

Oh and I just remembered something else that supports my logic. There was no moon during Kaguya's time since the sage created it on his deathbed. Yet Kaguya still used infinite tsukuyomi, which further proves that the moon was only necessary for range and not to actually keep the jutsu going.

You pretend that we actually know anything about that time? Remember, the Sage never told us about that. If Kaguya's jutsu was interrupted by getting the moon then he'd have only recreated it. Doubt he just made the moon out of earth, considering its third eye awakening powers.
