I think that goes for most people too actually, otherwise we wouldn't see such a dedicated and strong following of Itachi, Vegeta, L, etc fans, if most people only cared about strength or influence.

For me this is what makes a great manga no matter how powerful the charcter is.
Example Itachi is my favorite character for many traits he has yet at leas 15 other characters take him down easily.

This is some of the things i think a manga needa to be great.

-No contradictions
-A good plot
-A vilain with a true purpose
-Romance
-Relief comic scenes
-and at least 1 epic fight

Naruto as been going downhill for me.
