Serious question: Why do people like relatable characters and imperfection?

This is not to bash anyone. This is a serious question. Why do people want characters to seem "human" or "relatable"? Don't you get enough of that in real life?


I personally love to see larger than life and quote unquote "over powered" characters. This is because success is what I strive for. Also, I see and experience imperfection much too often in real life. I hate imperfection and wish that it was non-existent. "Relatable characters" in a manga like this are boring to me. I can walk outside to see these qualities. I want to see success. I want to see power that I can potentially invent via technological means or even just play as in a video game. I want to see stuff that I would love to watch on a big screen while eating pizza! It is the excitement of success, potential, and imagination that interests me. It is not boring and stupid imperfection that angers me so. That is my rationale.

What is yours? If you like relatable or "human" characters, tell me why.

Well, I guess it helps us bond with the characters? I dunno, but i don't even view Madara as human at this point.

People like things they can relate too. They like something that's, to a degree, realistic. A game or a story or whatever wouldn't be nearly as enticing with a character that is just perfect. They would be the best, it would get repetitive and boring. The only way conflict can be created is if there was suddenly someone better, which is what DBZ had to do at the rate the characters got stronger.

Well obviously you and I couldn't compete with Madara and the other demigods in NV, so its nice to see plenty of other characters who also can't I guess. I don't really care for weak or useless characters. I prefer ones that use their minds over pure brawn. Like Shikimaru

Alright so you have an opinion and can't understand why other people have a differing opinion. Sigh...okay then.

I'm not going to lie, I love all the fantasy that goes into a story. The superpowers, intergalactic travel, aliens, and all that jazz. But it's nice every once and a while to see some characteristics that bring the story back down to Earth.

I said most. Of course Deidara isn't weak. That's ridiculous. He lost to Sasuke only because of plot and was in Akatsuki after all. I'm talking about characters like Sai, Suigetsu, young Obito (after he was revealed to be Tobi, I kinda left that fanbase).

No character in any story is totally perfect, just like no person in real life is perfect. Every character has flaws or imperfections if you look deep enough. I bet you could even find imperfections in your favorite characters no matter how far from "human imperfections" you think they are.
