Obito was cool with Kushina and Minato--killed em

Nagato was cool with Jiraiya--killed him

Itachi was cool with his fam--killed em

Sasuke was cool with his bro--killed him

Zabuza was cool with his classmates--killed em

Oro was cool with his sensei--killed him (sorta)

any other good kids turned villain who killed people they were close with?

But the bigger question, why is this a theme for children?

Ikr xD also the whole concept of kids with daggers and stuff killing each other in the Chuunin Exams is pretty brutal really.

Who says the theme is for children? The story applies to anyone interested in reading/watching it regardless of their age group.

Naruto is shonen

According to Japanese law, the term "shonen" refers to "a person from the time they enter elementary school until the time they are 15 years of age"

Exactly, pretty sure the Manga Volumes are rated "T" for Teen and the Anime is rated M (At least in Australia).

OT: This isn't for children. It's even on Adult Swim

Naruto is shonen

And? There are people following Shonen series that are in their mid-thirties. Just because a certain series is categorized into a collective genre doesn't mean that it can't have mature themes in it. It's true from Naruto to Bleach to Fullmetal Alchemist, all shonen, all can have mature and impacting themes.

OT: Aren't most of these examples cases of characters falling from grace? This is pretty much setting examples for what not to do, most of these characters faced consequences afterwards, whether it be for those specific actions or something else.

They can have all the mature themes you want, those manga are still for children.
