Good evening friendo, so, sage mode and natural energy what can you tell me about these things in the context of the naruto verse and the roleplay. Give me a brief breakdown of both, also explain what you know about the varying kinds of sage mode and how they function uniquely.

Good Morning Sensei :p

Sage Mode is a state in which the user gathers natural energy from the surrounding nature, and combines it with their own chakra to create Senjutsu Chakra. This chakra allows for the user to tap into the essence of nature itself, and to be able to harness that chakra to enhance their physical abilities and the power of their techniques. Sage mode has mainly been shown to be tied to an animal contract (Toads and Snakes), they have also been shown to be tied with Elements that hold a strong connection to nature, as with Hashirama Senju and his Wood Style Sage Mode.

In terms of the Baseverse, Sage mode has the two forms: Imperfect and Perfect. They share similar abilities with each other, one being slightly better then the other, these include a damage reduction ability, passive sensing, increased reflexes and damage increase. Perfect SM has additional abilities like passive healing, access to the contract specific traits. In the RP, when using SM, the user converts their chakra into a separate reserve of Senjutsu chakra that get used up first before continuing with the users regular chakra. This reserve is made of a max of 30% for Imperfect SM and 40% for Perfect SM, with the user getting 10% for each turn they meditate to convert their chakra.

All correct so far, it's also worth noting that imperfect sages can take on features of the summoning contract you won't see generally with perfect sage mode users. Jiraiya and his frog like legs and nose for example. So you understand entering sage mode, the next topic that I think is worth mentioning is natural energy itself, while in sage mode your techniques are enhanced by natural energy, that means they do more damage yes but it also alters the way they behave in jutsu clashes.

Natural energy enhanced jutsu behave on neutral terms with other elements generally, this was the case the last time I used it myself anyway, and I don't think that has changed. So for example using a fire jutsu enhanced with NE would mean it's no longer weaker or stronger than water and wind respectively. Though I'll probably double check this with Chris cause I'm not 100% confident it's still like this.

So, on to the technique itself.

( Fukanzen Sennin Modo ) - Imperfect Sage Mode
Type: Supplementary
Rank: S
Range: N/a
Chakra: N/A ( -10 turn to sustain )
Damage: N/A (Active +20 Damage to all Ninjutsu and Taijutsu up to S-Rank)
Description: An empowered state of body achieved by blending natural energy with one’s physical and spiritual energy. The mode heightens performance on all levels by adding a new dimension of power to the user’s chakra. The state is a direct result of Senjutsu chakra circulating through the body. To enter this form, a minimum of 10% of the user’s maximum chakra reserve must be moulded into Senjutsu chakra, all subsequent technique employ Senjutsu chakra until the minimum cost (-10/turn) cannot be paid to sustain the mode. The user is able to reduce 20 damage from damage for the duration of this technique. The user is able to passively sense chakra and his/her perception and reflexes are enhanced by x2. Their ninjutsu and strength increases, empowering taijutsu and other close range physical combat techniques by +20. Additionally, Genjutsu cast by the user are empowered requiring the opponent to use Genjutsu release, of one rank higher than what is normally required (Effective on Genjutsu up to B rank). Lastly, the user gains access to contract-specific anatomical features and other physical feats granted by Sage mode.
Note: Usable twice per battle . Must wait 2 turns before using this technique again. Perfect Sages can use either perfect or imperfect form thrice with a delay of 1 turn between modes.
Note: Imperfect Sages can convert a maximum of 30% of their total chakra reserve. Perfect Sages can convert a maximum of 40% of their total chakra reserve.

Yes I wanted to mention that. I know it will be more specific to the Baseverse with the different cannon contracts and their corresponding SM. But both forms will generally have features related to the contract animal, for example with Bee's, their PSM gives the user wings, stinger and ability to use honey techniques. as all the cannon contracts use the universal ISM technique and such. I would assume by this that i would have, in ISM, wings and a stinger correct? Just wanting to clarify :)

That is definitely good to know, one question is if they are neutral, and I use a C-rank fire against a C-rank water. Its the ranks that cancel it out right not the damage? Cause Senjutsu increases the damage of the tech I use so, im guessing there is going to be a thread i can read that has answers to this haha

So with activating the technique, do I need to take a full turn to meditate and then activate the tech the turn after? (If i dont have the specialty at least). My next question is does the conversion , convert my max total chakra or the total I have at the time of using?
For example if I have used 500 of my chakra already, would I be converting my max total of 2000 or the total of 1500 that I have at the time?

I believe I saw Chris mention before that because the animal like traits are actually beneficial in the RP (being able to fly, sting people, use honey blah blah for bees in particular) that they're only available in the perfect sage mode form, so in ISM you wouldn't have wings or the stinger I don't believe. Though you could ask him to confirm this if you like, not 100%. In regards to how damage and rank work there is a thread regarding this. However the simple explanation is this.

Rank vs Rank clashes generally provide what you could consider a modifier to a technique, so if your technique is strong, for example regular fire vs water, it's considered to be a rank higher than it really is, this adds a modifier of 20 damage. So A rank water vs A rank fire, the water would be equivalent of 80 dmg when hitting the fire not 60.

So in your example, C rank fire against C rank water if the fire has Senjutsu making it neutral the clash would simply become your damage number vs theirs, yours is boosted by senjutsu if their technique isn't boosted then yours would most likely win and continue onwards.

As for the final question yeah it takes a full turn to meditate still I believe, so you'd have to wait and gather the natural energy, or have a clone do it, I think you can still have a clone gather for you. Also to the final question it says your total reserve in the technique so I believe it's referring to your maximum chakra not your current chakra.

That was all very concise, thank you. I will be sure to follow up with Chris about the ISM and form adaptions and the like. And will for sure check on that link.

Anything else we need to do?
