Selfies are linked to destructive amounts of narcissism and depression.

What I think is more proper is that stupidity is dangerous. Generally speaking, when I or anyone else does one's self harm, it is usually because a decision was made lacking in judgment. Millions of people across the world carry firearms with them every day without harm coming to them.

I would wager that it wasn't the first time he'd hurt himself or nearly gotten killed doing some kind of stunt for a selfie.

I remember the days when guys generally reserved jackassery for when they thought they could impress a girl in the vicinity.
