You know, there's a difference between making music because you feel you have an important message to share to everyone...vs making music because you feel that you, yourself, are important and want to be center of attention.Or it might even just tie into the same thing.Might all just be self-importance.


Take this guy, for example...the song is pretty decent, at least others can enjoy it...but my official reaction to it's message was "Who cares, who the hell are you, and what the hell are you getting at?"...the message doesn't seem all that big...I'm just like "what is this guy selling, here"?If you ain't gotta big message, then what are you trying to do...looking to be center of attention, and show the world how important you are?Sheesh...

If you're gonna do it, do it BIG, make a statement.Do you expect half assing to get you anywhere decent in the entertainment industry?

Well it maybe their limit at the moment (some get better some later or worse.) and they are still trying to sell so getting attention or notice is pretty much their aim.

I looked at the lyrics of this song at genius.com, and it explains lyrics at best it could. It doesn't feel like the singer want to be center of attention. At least for thins song. I never heard of Sonder, and this is the first song I hear. Probably there is a message in this song like "Speed kills. Don't be hasty." Maybe?

He emphasizes his ambition in the next verse

That is life for every ambitious person, there is no such thing as a tomorrow or next time, it's the here and now because tomorrow is not promised to anyone.

lol, i remember when i use to think that way....

but honestly it doesnt need to have a big message, most of us artists try to make it deeper than it actually is. but its entertainment in the end, you can make what you feel is the most profound statement but if its not entertaining, nobody will care honestly. also people will put their own perspective on it based on their experiences and will mostly likely not get the full scope of what youre going for. even when you try to be as blunt as possible

i tell people all the time the entertainment industry is all style wars. music is sound play unless youre a rapper but they arent musicians as much as poets. the godfathers of western music would use symphonies with choral vocals but they wouldnt be saying something all the time, or it would just be telling some greek mythology story, its styling sonic vibrations is all really. its just better to have a message so when people ask you about it you dont sound like a lucky clueless person

but attention is definitely a factor. i realized that once i got music reviewed and featured on major music sites, getting that attention does make you feel like you made it. some artists fall off because once they realize that and got the attention and recognition theyve subconsiciouly actually been chasing after the whole time, then they dont try as hard. everyone thinks its getting a bunch of money but youll always need money, its usually attention and recognition


even so, what gets you anywhere in this style war is individuality, not really message because everything has been expressed before in some way by someone. its actually crazy, ive written songs with deep personal messages and have later found past artists felt the same way, though not exactly expressed the same. its because the human experience doesnt really change through time and people still connect to the same things

but when someone comes in with individuality in any art they stick out because of said individuality/style, everyone else is just seeking attention/money and follow whoever or whatever style is popular to get that. individuality in style and execution is the key not message, message just helps after the fact and sometimes is apart of that style. but the people who are legends in any art form throughout time have always been the most stylish, which inspires and makes wave for others to surf on
