Just because they both want to be Hokage, doesn't mean they have to fight for it. The seat for Hokage isn't always based on power. It's chosen based on recommendation, and votes. Like with Orochimaru and Minato, they did not have a battle for the seat, the vote was in Minato favor, thus he became Hokage

And if they elders picked naruto over sasuke do u really think the latter will just sit back and discard his true ambition? Naruto will always be in Sauke's way and he'll realise he has to get rid of him imo

Not that Kishi is Takao Koyama or has to follow his lead, but DBZ is an example of how PERCEIVED buildup/fan hopes/dreams/expectations don't always come true. Naruto and Sasuke fighting as enemies would be the antithesis of what this manga is about. Furthermore, if Naruto can read emotions/feelings/evil intent as shown when he first took to the battlefield and sussed out the zetsus the SO6P sure better have been able to sense Sasuke's ill intent when they spoke if he had any.

Sasuke will make the right decision. He may not do the right thing at first, but as we'v seen throughout the story since meeting Itachi, he is back on the right path.
