Even though I'm not an admin, though as a global mod I can guarantee you I use the Search Bar a lot, especially when checking bio's, and it works fine. It's not the most sophisticated and most perfect search tool in existence, however it works a lot better than most people give credit for it and most of the negative critics it gets are often unjustified.
Let me now take the example of the maker of this thread and the term 'Cascade'. Now he didn't have much results, but that was not the fault of the search tool, but that of the maker himself as he simply did not give accurate restrictions on his search. He just typed 'Cascade'. As a result the search tool searched all the NB sections and gave all the threads where the word 'cascade' somewhere is mentioned. The first three hits the person had are extremely popular and active threads. If the user Cascade posted even once in it or even another member just mentioned recently his name, that might have been reason enough for it to appear there.
That's just how search tools work. It's a machine, it doesn't know what you now exactly want, hence the reason you need to be very clear and specific.
I just went to Advanced Search, typed in 'Cascade' on User Name, enabled Find Threads Started By User and Exact Name => final result:
You must be registered for see images
And it really didn't take much time.
If you know very well for what you now are searching, it's most of the time very easy to find what you are looking for. I could even get an even more accurate result if I had more info. When I check bio's, I use it all the time as I need to see which bio's every person has and had in the past, so I only need to search in the Biographies section on a specific name and I got all info I need.
Though logically it depends a lot on what you are searching for, still it works decently, at least more than people think.
