It seems to me that the karma seals are somehow connected to six paths abilities. I think learning how to use your karma seal involves learning to use each of the six paths. So far we've seen what looks like preta path from Kawaki and Boruto. Kawaki appears to be using a form of Asura path and Boruto Naraka path.
