[WARNING FOR THOSE WHO DON'T LIKE READING LONG THREADS]

It seems that after kindergarten kids seem to slowly become less imaginative about things and become work drones. Also they turn from using their imagination to obsessing over pop culture. Does it worry you that kids are being influenced by pop culture at such young ages nowadays?

Back to the original point kids go from full of imagination (kindergarten), to pop culture oriented (elementary school), then to sports, ***, money, drugs, pop culture (high school). This is not all kids but a good portion. Sure hard working kids are better prepared to be workers but are they really ready for the world?

Some students only worry about work and accomplishing objectives set by teachers and break away from social life with other students (labeled as nerds by some). My main question is what causes such drastic changes in behavior in students from K-12?

Sure they mature but that doesn't mean you should have no type of imagination and some form of immaturity. Is it the media, the education system itself, how their brought up or possibly a combination of all three with some things I left out?

Is it better when people don't ask questions and form ideas of their own that break away from normal thought processes? This thread will probably have like 10 replies because people are more fascinated by trivial matters (Not going to mention any threads I find idiotic). Anyways what are your thoughts?

Pardon my grammar mistakes I was rushing.

Kids obsessed over pop culture in the 70s too. And the 80s and the 90s. True, they did not have the technology at their fingertips to keep posted, however the children of the past would make up for the lack of technology by staying glued to the television screen and hog the telephone to talk their friends up the electric bill over Beatles, Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, and N-Sync.

I think it is a bad thing. I never got into it because it seemed so stupid to me and still does

Do you think the increase in fascination/obsession of pop culture influenced the decline of our education system?

You label it a "bad thing" yet find it stupid? Could you explain because I could've interpreted that statement wrong.

I believe not. It's the education system itself that needs changing. We need to adopt Finland's way of educating our children, where they do not stress over grades only encouraging the content to learn, have our teachers be trained and respected as doctors, and not even take that many tests. As baffling as this is to see (believe me, I scoffed at this idea myself when I first heard of it), Finland's results are consistently in the top5 of national test scores on the planet. The United States is dangling near the bottom of the list.

dude its not even that long ha. My opinion on this matter is that every child has the same opportunity as any child. If for some reason they fail to achieve their goal then the blame lands squarely on them only. There can be no blame on "pop culture" because everyone feels the allure of pop. What distinguishes good from the best is their willingness to not dwell on instant gratification.

Everybody is different to say all kids have the same opportunities is questionable. If you're poor and don't have access to a computer or internet and your parents don't have the luxury of buying you books or driving you places. How do you have the same opportunity of someone who does? If the poor student and the other student needed to do a research paper and turn it in the following morning how would they possibly have the same opportunity. Also peer pressure and bullying still exist, there are multiple factors that could give someone a greater opportunity to succeed and factors that give them a greater chance to fail.

Well at least here in the united states everyone has the same opportunity. I cant speak for all countries. However there has been individuals that have risen from poverty to take control of a country e.g. Chavez

I'm talking about the united states. There is a lot of poverty in the inner cities and other places. Also it doesn't necessarily have to be just poverty some kids live in neighborhoods where you can't even walk the streets without fear of being shot and people in dysfunctional homes have a lot to deal with emotionally where they just might not have the ability or time to do school work. You are correct this post isn't that long though.

I've said this before, it's because parents these days suck. They don't know how to raise a kid and that's why they fuck up.

That's what school is for 0_0. Creating obedient, passive civilians indoctrinating them with the state controlled consciousness/state of mind and teachings.
